Kimmie and the Gulf Coast sea life

Kimmie of the blog Art in Red Wagons has given herself a wonderful project. She is painting small watercolors of some of the endangered sea creatures on the Gulf Coast, honoring their beauty and fragility and now endangered life. She calls it the "Oil Spill Animals Series." "It is a legacy for my children who are grieving over it all," she says. Stop by her blog, scroll down to some of the other paintings. They are lovely.

Wow, Suki, I thought you had done a watercolor - and a very good one at that! This is a wonderful project. Sad, but wonderful. I am so worried about all the endangered life in the Gulf. What in the world have we done to ourselves and everyone and everything else on the planet? And how can we ever fix this? Armageddon.

Very nice watercolor,,,and project.

I'm not watching any more.I can't look at those animals one more time.
They are reaping what man has sown,
and I don't mean just the drilling in the first place.
Oh, best I don't get started,,,terrible tragedy.

Teri C is going to go nuts when she sees your new banner. Don't be surprised if she comes by and picks all those pretty daisys!

The last thing I need is one more blog to follow, as if I had the time..but I liked Kimmie's watercolors and signed up to follow. Am sure I learn from her.
Her project is terrific. Thanks for the directtion there.

Kimmie's art is beautiful - but the reality behind why she is painting it is heartbreaking....
I believe that people are (finally) catching on to what a huge ecological disaster this is.
The repercussions are huge....I posted about this a few weeks back and if anyone is interested, the names of the appropriate people to voice your opinion to are listed.

Sorry to sermonize, Suki, but this tragedy is near and dear to my heart... we simply MUST voice our displeasure.

Love, always,

♥ Robin ♥

I wonder every day what I can do to help the creatures who live in that oily, poisonous water in the Gulf. I have joined groups who protest, but I have not come up with any more ideas.

This painting is a wonderful project. And very creative!

I was there when the Exxon Valdez spilled oil all over coastal BC. I was younger and I helped with cleanup. It was horrible, but this in the Gulf is so much worse...I can't watch the oil gushing out of that pipe anymore. It is never-ending...it feels to me like Mother Earth is bleeding and we don't know how to stop it.

This is a lovely watercolor. Ill head over to her blog.
If I were in better shape and had money I would go to LA to help in some way. So from here I keep asking myself what I can do. I may send money to Audubon and earmark it for the birds and animals there.
Robin posted quite a few good links as well.
We have only begun to see the devastation, I'm afraid. Marion put it well...Mother Earth is bleeding.

To all. I know when disasters strike, whether global or personal, I am always in a quandary as to how to stop the bleeding to use Marion's metaphor. What to do? I do think artists and writers too are in a good place to help heal a little bit, to speak out and do something even if indirectly to assuage that feeling of helplessness somewhat.

I just noted today that you had permission of the artist to post her image of the starfish.. should I ask directly if it is ok that I too posted her blog link on my FBsite out of admiration and supportive intent.?? Or?? I am unsure of protocols re: sharing on FB ,etc... and wd certainly take it off if there was an objection... (Please advise???)

Susan, go to Kimmie's blog and ask her. She says on her blog no reproductions unless she is asked. But I can't speak for her.
