My friend old pajamas sent me a box of cigar and candy boxes filled with dried flowers. His elderly neighbors, who were artists and craftspersons, collected and dried these flowers for years.
There were about 12 cigar and candy boxes filled with stacks of pressed flowers wrapped in tissue like this. Each box was labeled with flower color or style such as "Special flowers."
op knew I loved pressed flowers and used them in my crafts so when the neighbors died and their son was sorting through their possessions, op bought these boxes for me. !! Some of the flowers are mere dust, it is true. But others have stood up amazingly well through the years. Thanks you op. Such a sweet and thoughtful gift!

What a thoughtful gift and a wonderful surprise. Happy crafting!
what a wonderful thought. love your new origami header, did you make it?
This post title is so intriguing. What a precious unique gift. I can't wait to see what you do with them. I love your new header.
Such a thoughtful gift! Not only are the flowers beautiful but what about those boxes?
What a special way for them to live on in your artwork. I, too, love your new header...I have never done Origami but have a crane someone made me years ago.
Thanks for your sweet comment recently...I'd love to share a glass of wine with you and will think of you when I sip...
I LOVE your new heading. Did you do that? Its fabulous. How fun to get more pressed flowers. you will have enough for some time it looks like and the boxes would make great boxes for decorating.
Aww, this was such a thoughtful gift. I'm sure he new how much use you will get from these. I have a lot of pressed flowers that are probably ten or more years old but they are still pretty and I use them all the time.
I like your new header, too.
Hello Suki... I am a friend of Annie's. Just began to read your blog... and am really enjoying it.
Love the gift of dried flowers - can't wait to see what beautiful things you make with them.
The French movie you listed that you were watching today is one of my favourites......sad, but beautifully done.
Best Wishes,
Robin Lamb (from San Francisco)
I have my own collection covering many years of things from nature. I hope they are so lovingly received at some time in the future. :o)
Happy creating to you Suki.
To all. No, I didnt make the origami. Dont know how. But a friend of mine does and for 3 years she sent me the cards she made at Christmas and I saved them and put them out each holiday.
Re: boxes-- absolutely. Some of these boxes say the cigars are 6 cents each. They must be really old. Some of them too are about half the depth of the usual cigar boxes i have seen, which will make them very nice for assemblages.
That's awesome, sounds like a ton of flowers! I bet we see them in your art very soon. Hope you have a blessed day.
Hi Robin, thanks for stopping by. I only watched part of the movie so today, snowy and dark, i can watch the rest.
What a thoughtful gesture and act of friendship OP bestowed upon you. Wow Suki! I'll bet you felt like a kid in a candy store opening each box.
I thought the header envelope was lovely too. Looks like Caroline Soer's handiwork ;)
A truly amazing gift especially for you! Op it tops in my book. You will use them well! I see them in atcs and traveling book pages (hopefully mine!) ;0
Well what a sweetheart he is!
this brought back memories of years ago when I used to press flowers-- I can't remember why now-- or if I did anything with them-- but I remember it was a strong interest or urge for me do press flowers-
Nice blog. Love your designs. Wish If you could share the procedure to create one.
