Mim's

I had to get a photo of this market in Northfield, Mass. So funny. I looked at 5 houses under $200,00 in Northfield. Only one had any allure. It was an ordinary 60's, knotty pine ranch but with woods behind it. And a good price.

Northfield is an interesting town, with a huge private school campus with gorgeous stone buildings which is for sale right now. It has a tiny IGA, a couple of pizza places, but no gas station within 15 minutes drive! Also, it is in the warning area for the Vermont Nuclear Power plant. A friend of mine knows someone who lives in Northfield so I gave her a call to ask about the area. I havent heard back yet. One half hour drive to Amherst, a hotbed of colleges and activities. One half hour to Keene, NH. (I am currently about 40 minutes from Keene).

I guess I'd keep a big can of gasoline on my property for when I got low and had not the amount to get me fifteen miles away for more.
Good luck here. Under $200 sounds great! How close would you be to Stow, MA and OUR MIM?

Sounds quaint and promising Suki. Just keep your tank above the half way mark and you will be fine.

Sounds like a cozy location. I've got my fingers crossed for you, Suki!

Onward, indeed. My thoughts are with you.

That's a sweet shot of Mim's, Suki. And this place sounds kind of 'you'. Such proximity to a college town is a real plus for a thinker and an artful person like you.

My son once attended a young writers' conference at UMASS-Amherst. And he loved the place so much, he is thinking about applying to graduate school there. Just think--if he went there, I'd know there was a nice person within easy driving distance. :)

is it close to Williamstown or Pittsfield? I really like those areas...

Lynn, well I have gotten used to filling my tank when it gets half empty, even here in NH there can often be long distances between gas service stations. I am not sure how close it is to Stow which is closer to Boston. Maybe a couple of hours.

Leslie, it is sort of quaint I guess in a certain way. Not really new england church spire quaint like Walpole NH though.

Thanks Willow. I just have to keep my focus.

Thanks Babs.

Kelly, I hope I can do it this time.

San, that's interesting about your son and grad school. I ended up the other day, by mistake, driving through the campus on my quest to find downtown Amherst and was impressed by how large it is. Of course the whole area there is very rich in learned folks due to having, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke and Smith besides uMass all within close proximity. I have a friend who graduated from the Masters in Writing program at UMass and she enjoyed it very much.

Natalya, in the general vicinity. IE in Pioneer Valley however those two towns are on one side of the Ct river and up in the hills. this town is on the other (eastern) side of the Ct river.

I love small college towns...so much life there!

The nuclear plant, ugh. I'd check into that some more.
Why is there always an obstacle?

I got a hoot out of Mim's place!

wow, really great shot...Here $200K could get you a 400 sq. ft apartment an hour outside of the city on a noisy highway, if you were lucky... so that price is mind boggling to me! The College town vibe is a plus but the no gas station & power plant hmmm, that would give me pause :) Hugs,
Jo

It's a relief to know that Susan, finally, has a turn-on turn-off tea kettle. She's quite a bit older than me and, though we were once romantically linked, but no more, I continue to worry. I have a 'walker' in my storage unit, which I shall send to her, making navigation through the double-wide a bit easier, I pray...

Cute store title. The new area sounds nice. Sometimes remote can be good. Good luck.

I agree about the fuel - keep a can handy. We ALWAYS ran out of fuel when R. was in charge of filling up; now I make sure I top up wherever I see a cheaper fuel station so we never run low.

And, dear Suki, I must thank you for your lovely comment about my 'Journaling the Journal' post. It means so much to me to hear you say that (right now I am working on research for my 2010 articles to keep one step ahead of myself) but I'm an inveterate dropper in when my email flags up a post. Love and hugs, and best of luck in your continuing search for some place where you can be happy.A.

hello, nice to meet you...your name keeps popping up everywhere i go, so i thought, since this time, i clicked on the link and it was you under a seemingly different name-not knowing the strangeness of blogger, perhaps it is the same, in other words, well, i thought i would stay awhile and have that cuppa with you...aren't these the greatest things since sliced bread?

hoping you get everything you want, the price is certainly good sounding, coming from a place where that price hasn't been seen since 1967! i say, it looks good and you won't be running out of gas, i lived out that far for years and years and it was heaven...here's hoping it is everything you every could dream about and didn't know to ask :)

As someone who lives 15 minutes from the service station and half hour from anything else-- there are pros and cons-- the pro is you will stay home more and get more art done :-)

I graduated from UMASS, Amherst and live about 30 miles south. At the time I lived there I was a student and rated the towns by their bars and pinball machines. - Poets, writers, musicians, all kinds of artists in that area. Also farmland and the scenic views from the (low) mountains.

boy, you know I'd want that sign...I'm gonna have to visit you when you buy a house there, it's only about 1 hour away

by the way, I received 5 "Girlfriends" books before I left to come to Florida - so I might mail them to you in smaller groups.

dear suki, hmmmmm. you know i don't live too far from there. or chewy.

chewy's decription is so right on. it's a great area, rural and rich in culture.

i'm wishing you the very best.

Mim, yes do mail the books in smaller bunches if possible.

Chewy, I adored accidently driving through the UMass campus and seeing all the intelligent young people walking with a snappy step. I love being around thinking minds. i know i'd love to live in Amherst but prices are over what I'd like to pay. May try Greenfield next.

KJ I know you are there...your being there makes the place feel warmer to me. Also my homeopathist lives in the area, and prob some other few folks too if i put on my thinking cap.

Hope this might be the ONE...keep your spirits up!
In your sidebar you mentioned having to meet 5 new people...I can so relate to the pressure...I find it difficult to meet new people under festive occasions.
Enjoy your new sweater, traveling vegetable dish and Thanksgiving Day!

My cousin used to live in Greenfield. She and her family now live in South Deerfield near Yankee Candle.
