melange

We are experiencing a week of "Indian Summer." Admittedly I took this photo two weeks ago in Peterborough, but still. It feels like summer out there and I love it.

Here is my Lojong card for today. Something to keep in mind always.

Birthday gifts to me. A pair of winter walking Keene's purchased in Peterborough. To my dismay I saw the same shoe today in a Bellows Falls store for $30 less, but oh well. Very comfy and a good purchase.

I don't know when is the last time I bought a NEW pair of slacks. Usually I buy used in thrift stores. This was a birthday treat. The first pair was a size 6 which, although it fit me well, I took back and exchanged for a size 8. Love the name. French Dressing.

Love the pocket stitching.
Very nice corduroy too. But why are they many inches too long for me? Now what to do. I never buy petite, which might fit me lengthwise in the legs, but are too short waisted for me.

Good looking shoes and great cords. Usually someone and the local cleaners has a seamstress to do the hemming?! I'm ordering my fleece slippers from Land's End...last day for free shipping.
Enjoy your birthday purchases!

Happy Birthday...I'd take the shoes back and save the $30, cheap me...and wondering why you didn't keep the size six if they fit, were they too long too? Just wondering. Love all that you chose for yourself. Enjoy wearing all of it. And wear it in good health.

Love the Keens. I like Mary Ann's advice. Our dry cleaners offers excellent altering services, and reasonable, too.

Well, first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Secondly, I love your brithday treats. Those jeans are to die for! And the shoes will go with them so well. Good job!
(If you don't sew, just cut your jeans off, turn them under and use bondable hem tape (available at a fabric store) and iron a hem in them. Ta-da!) Have a happy Indian Summer Birthday!

Oh I think you'll love those slippers. I could try the cleaners. thanks for the idea.

Lynn, I had worn the shoes for two weeks before I discovered the cheaper pair. The 6's were fine but frankly I like a bit of baggyness to my clothes but actually I have no good reason for taking them back. I just thought if they shrunk in the wash they'd be too tight but then the shoplady said "these dont shrink in fact they stretch" so....who knows. Both pairs were too long.

Patti, I think I will enjoy these as almost all my clothes are falling apart. Glad to have something with a new crispness to it.

Elizabeth, thanks.

Willow, yes I may do that re: hem. I first bought a pair of Keen's two years ago and then another pair last summer and they are so comfy and practical that i leapt when I saw this new pair.

Katie Jane, thanks for the bday wish. Huh. Bondable hem tape. Well, maybe I can find some without driving for hours~ When I cut off though I am always afraid I'll cut off too much.

I think we are having one here too. Indian summer.. so nice even when it rains.
Love the clothes. if you cant make up your mind on how much to cut then take them to a tailor. they dont charge much. but wash them first. pants always shrink up on me. Even the so called none shrinking kind. :) Good choices.

OK, I'll try again.
Suki,
Love, love, love the shoes! Slacks too long???? You can roll up or hem them. A bigger problem is I can almost never find slacks long enough! I buy men's Levi jeans because they come in measured lengths.

Happy Birthday.

Nice trousers with matching comfy shoes. Good, you treat yourself every once in a while, you deserve it!
How about the houses......? I am curious what will happen next.

Have a nice weekend!

Cris, thanks for the advice to wash the pants first. I'll do that.

Lisa, my health practitioner told me I should gain more weight and I am trying. I lost 10 pounds taking care of Mom. But havent yet gained it back. Just the opposite I know of most folks.

Natalya, thank you for your kind wishes.

chewy, oh my, you must be tall! These pants are at least five inches, maybe more, too long. I am 5'4". maybe that is short nowadays. or maybe I shrank since last measuring myself. Yep, could roll them too, the easy way out. The shoes feel good on the feet as well as look good.

marianne, thanks for asking about the houses. Maybe I should do another post to update. I have felt so ashamed of myself around the whole process. Or at least the part of the process that I failed at. The rest I think I did quite well on. But still I ended up not buying. I do feel I am a LUNATIC in this one arena and even though I dont need to know why I sort of want to know what my problem is. Get over it might be a good refrain for me to chant.

suki, you didn't buy a house because it wasn't time. i think the house has to find you, not the other waya around.

i would be thrilled to have new shoes and new pants. i am a bad shopper. i like your choice of the gifts you've given yourself.

suki, i want to thank you for the incredibly affirming and supportive comments you leave about my writing. boy, do i appreciate them. xoxo

Ooooh, I need to check out those shoes. Loog good, and also look comfy!
Often jeans are short for me also, so I've never had the hemming problem.

Oh Suki, I am loving those shoes! While I like to spend much of winter in boots, these shoes are just the thing! They are fab! I don't wear pants all that much, but if I did, I would want a pair of these, too! They are wonderful and you deserve them! Yippee! What fun!

Oh, a good tailor should not charge much to hem these for you. It wouldn't be difficult!
