National Poetry Month Giveaway

In honor of NPM, I am offering this CD (played several times) to you, dear poetry lovers. Hear Billy Collins read some of his favorite poems. Included are: Shoveling snow with the buddha, consolation, japan, wolf and many others. Just leave a comment here if you wish to be entered in the giveaway. ONE winner will be chosen and announced on Monday.

Here is a poem by my friend Paula Yup.

Japanese Poems Say

What is right in front of you
the dirty laundry
the book of Japanese poems
the mug of Kona coffee
the grief over a friend with cancer
she is your cherry blossom
but of course you really don't know
these are only words after all
and this body is only today
who is to say tomorrow will come
that the sun will shine
a rainbow over there
the ocean will do its thing
waves here waves there
pounding surf somehow
the fisherman walks down the street

Oh, this is a great giveaway...even if I don't win it has reminded me how much I like these poems by Billy Collins. I love that you are watching Alice Neel DVD...she is one of my favorites. Stay warm in your layers of clothes!

Thanks for hosting another giveaway, Suki. Put my name in the hat. And thank you for posting that lovely, quiet poem too.

As you probably already know, I adore Billy Collins and would love to hear him read his poems aloud. What a treat. Please, do count me IN!! I'm feeling lucky! :D

Well I must admit ignorance as I do not know Billy Collins' poetry so if I win I will be educated and enlightened I imagine.

Your Japanese Poem by your friend is powerful.

Please put me in for the give away. I am not familiar with Billy Collins but will look at the library to see if his/her poems are available.

OK I am assuming everyone who responded wants to be in the list???

BSD, I know you have mentioned BC before. Oh, I do adore alice Neel. This film included interviews with her two sons too. I think her portraits are extraordinary.

San, ok great your name is in. My friend Paula has been writing for many years. Her poems are always interesting and different I think.

Willow, wonderful. You name is in!

Lynn billy collins was the national poet laureate a few years back.

Lisa, BC is a popular poet so I'd guess the library might have at least one of his books.

Artist Unplugged, I wish I could send your kind comment to my friend. She doesnt do computers but when I write to her by hand I'll tell her what you said.

I love your new banner photo, the color and the grasses are so evocative of the seaside

I googled Billy Collins and enjoyed what I heard...so add my name to the hat too, please.

Paula's poem is powerful, simple 'what's in front of you" stuff we all deal with in one way or another, but rarely put into words...

well sheeeet! there is no way i can pass up this contest. put me in ms. suki. i want to win. i will cheat, stuff the ballot box, bribe the administrator, take you to lunch, sing a song, write a poem, push others aside, charm my way in, bully, cajole, lie, steal, anything. as long as i don't get caught and have to face public blog humiliation.

Thanks to all who have replied and y'll will be added to the draw. Good luck. And KJ I must resist all those bribes though they are tempting.

Hmmm, I'm thinking this could be very nice to listen to as we drive across the country back to our old stomping grounds. Please put my name in the hat!

I love your friends poem. Please tell her. And I love your poem too Suki as I can relate to being a disturbance in a quiet moment outside, unintentionally, of course. Herons are a spiritual sign for me as my mother was from New Brunswick (and they're referred to as herons.) Bit of a reach, eh?
Have a super weekend ;)

P.S. My brother is fighting for his life at Memorial Hospital in N. Conway. Please send him some of your wonderful healing energy. Thank you XX

Lolo, i am so sorry to hear about your brother. I will send him prayers and light. blessings, suki
