Maple Sugar Candy Giveaway

It is that time of year again when the sap is running and the maple sugar house is hopping. My brother says this local sugar house is one of the biggest in the state. Learn more at the official NH Maple Producers website.

The tractor with the empty container drives up our road and drains the vat near my brother's property. Some of the sap comes from my brother's trees. The tractor returns to the sugar house with the clear sap.
And empties it into these open vats.
Wow. That's a lot of sweetness.

Here the clear sap is being cooked down into syrup. Approximately 43 gallons of sap are needed to make one gallon of syrup!

This year I have TWO little boxes of freshly made maple candy to give away. The boxes are 4 inches by five inches and have 12 small candies within. Just leave a comment on this post and you will be entered into the drawing. There will be two winners, each receiving one box of candy. The winners will be announced on Monday, March 16th.

thanks for your comment on the baroque things and me too, I like the simplicity better, although the rich decorations can be inspiring too sometimes

This is so interesting to learn about...and sweet of you to offer the sweets. Since I do not eat sweets you can leave my name out of the hat, but someone will be very happy to receive such a gift.
Nice of you to do this.

I've never tasted maple sugar candy...but I've never held back on the syrup for my pancakes or waffles. This is a great offer and I'm sure won't hurt my exercise plan! ha Thank you for thinking of this gift offer!

Oh how fun another give away. Thanks for telling us now they do the syrup. Thats a lot of sapthat it takes to make the syrup.
I cant eat the sugar either so leave me out of hat too but I had to comment.
BTW, Does this hurt the tree's any taking all that sap?

OK Annie. YOu are in!

And you too Artist Unplugged.Clever you.

Mim, your name is down.

Babs, these are sweet for sure. Half a leaf is enough for the whole days worth of sugar. :)

Andrea, I shipped a box to last year's prizewinner in Australia but maybe I just called it a gift and didnt say food. I dont remember, but I had no trouble and she received it ok. Your name is on the list.

OK Lynn.

BSD, I did a giveaway of maple candy last year too but only one box that year. YOur name is down for the draw.

Cris, I dont know if the process hurts the tree. I mean, they don't die from it for sure as they are tapped year after year. maybe it is like milking a cow.

I will defer to the drawing because I don't care for maple flavor, but I really enjoyed your photos of the maple syrup process. I did know that it takes a lot of sap to make a gallon. Makes me wonder how the trees can produce enough for all those bottles of syrup. Thanks for the tour.

you are welcome Katie Jane.

Never tasted the real thing, only maple-flavoured fudge. Fascinating to read how it is made, and how many gallons of sap are needed for one gallon of syrup - no wonder the price here has doubled this year. It's more valuable than motor-fuel! Please count me in.

I don't know how I found this site. You know how it goes: you find one interesting then click, click, click...before you know it you are LOST (but in a good way). So, I just thought that I would tell you that we spent an incredible vacation one year in N.H. and that I love it there. And, I don't know many people who are aware of Wabi Sabi but I have books, poetry and art that is all Wabi Sabi. I even found a child's book for my Granddaughter that is all about Wabi Sabi. I have book-marked your site and intend on following. I, too, am a writer (although not published) and have a BA in art. Why do you have to move? And, have you decided where to go? I live in No.Calif. in the Foothills. Quiet, peaceful, good for creating.

Hi Suki,
Leave me out of the draw... My Dad and I most likely will have breakfast at a sugar shack within the next couple weeks. I always bring home some maple sugary leaves.

sukipoet said...

Anne, I think this candy is much more wonderful than maple flavored fudge! Pure sugar. :) OK you are down. By the way, here, the price on maply syrup has gone way up this year too.

Teri welcome. I just bought that children's book about the cat right? Love it. I am currently living in my mom's house. She died in December. The house now belongs to my brother. I can take my time, but i need to find a place for myself. as I have been renting for years, I now wish to own a little house. I havent decided where to go yet.

sukipoet said...

Lisa, I take that as you would like to be in the draw.

Chewy, have fun with your Dad. What a nice outing for you both. Yummie.

Suki, I did not know the tree gives that much sap to make a gallon of syrup. I am shocked it doesn't cost more! Wow...how amazing is that?

Thanks for walking us through this process, it was great to see it through your eyes!

You are a love!

Roxanne said...

MMM.... they look so delicious. I liked the pictures you took of the process ! Very generous of you to share them ... like Lynn, I am not taking in sweet things, but I'm sure whomever receives them will be grateful!
