Poem

Human Being challenged us to write a version of Emily Dickinson's poem "I am nobody." Here is Emily's version.

I’m nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody, too?
Then there’s a pair of us — don’t tell!
They’d banish us, you know.
0
How dreary to be somebody!

How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

Here is my version:

I am peace. Who are you?
Are you peace too?
Then there's a pair of us--to start
to banish war, you know.

How wondrous to be peace filled.
How blessed like a hug.
To sing of peace across the earth
to each and everyone.

Oh Suki, my dear dear dear friend... i'm crying... your words are so truthful and beautiful... coming from your peaceful soul...

This is exactly what our world needs... i read it several times... and each time when i came to this line:

How blessed like a hug.

tears welled up in my eyes...
i imagined people hugging each other and caring for each other...
'banishing war'

I love the idea of banishing war...

You are a true poet and artsit... full of love for humanity...
Wish i were there... to hug you...
Namaste!

I'm back to my blog to put the like to your wonderful version there...

Marianne: Emily Dicknson move over, I'm on the way. :) Seriously, thanks. And you know, I live with Emily Dickinson. That's my cat's name.

Andrea thank you. The idea for several different versions of the poem came to me at 3am when I had insomnia for a bit. Now I've forgotten what the other one was.

human being, you are too kind. Thank you for presenting this challenge. I looked at Ivy's blog and I know it's catching on on other's blogs too. What fun.

Suki, your poem is far more uplifting than Emily's! I prefer uplifting and positive.

Mmmm, I am not much with word art, but maybe I could give this a try...at least for myself!

Thank You, Suki!

That's dazzling, Suki. When I was reading the Emily, I was thinking, this is going to be one tough act to spin off. But you did it. Applause!

Wow. My little head is swelling up bigger than a prize pumpkin. All these kind words about my poems.

Kim. Do give it a try. It is fun. You may surprise yourself.

Thanks San. You are too kind. Blush, blush as my friend and poet now deceased Mort used to say.

Cris, thanks for reading my poem. Peace is certainly a lovely ideal. Will it ever be a reality?

Hi Ali. Thanks for stopping by. And for your generous words.

There was a woman here in the US called "Peace Pilgrim." She walked across the country countless times. She said she would keep walking until peace came. She wasn't young either at the end. Ironically she was killed by a truck whilst walking on the road.

Suki - I really liked your version of the poem. Peace. Brought a smile to my face on this Thursday morning. Thanks ... and ahhh... next time you go down to the pond to calm yourself, please always bring your camera. The soothing qualities reached all the way up here in Canada :)

To each and everyone you love...came out in my head when reading your last line.
Yours of course stands fine just as is, but decided to share that thought anyway.
Reading this on Remembrance Day.
Wanting peace PEACE SHALOM for the world over.
Hugs hugs hugs.

Honor, yes, the pond has turned out to be a very soothing place for me. And even sitting on the porch, I can see the pond and it is beautiful. Then at night, the chorus of peepers. I love being near water.

Lynn, good addition to the poem although my thought would be for peace to come to those I also don't necessarily love. Non-discriminatory peace including animals and minerals. So that would be everyTHING.
