Nest

I found this little nest on the grass.  Perhaps it blew out of a tree.  See the feathers in the center?  Some nest are packed with mud and very "formal."  This one is a creative, flowing woven masterpiece. No mud. The branch in the lower left continues on out into a curl.  It is about 2 3/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches.

They really are works of Art. Amazing how such a little bird brain can do such interesting intricate work. My neighbor found a cool one in her bushes when trimming them yesterday. It was an old abandoned one but pretty cool. Wish I had thought to take a photo of it.

You know what? when I first saw this I thought Suki has woven a nest! I had no idea it was the work of birds. Wow! Really a piece of art.

Such a tiny nest. We found some nests in the rafters of the porch when we moved into our house. It's so interesting to see what they use and how they weave them. One day I saw a bird tugging at the prayer flags. I imagined he/she was using them for nest making.

Interesting story of chigestsu-ni

What a delightful little nest. Very creative indeed, and it does look "hand made." I can just imagine the little ones and the mother resting, comfortably held within its embrace...

This is really sweet! It is so tiny, yet so very detailed. I can imagine this little bird flying back and forth working hard on this nest! It is a beautiful find! It seems as though it is more sturdy than it appears!

Thank you, Suki!

What a find! It truly IS a treasure. This bird was an artist....and now, it resides with another artist! How fitting! I can imagine how light it is to hold....I could stare at it's pattern for hours, deciphering just how it was woven....

Suki...it's so beautiful!

Love,

One of my most favorite things!
I love finding one, examining all the mixed media they used to build it.
This one is a true gem!

yes, so artlessly artful-- ! this is an inspiring reminder/example of the artistry native/inherent (and coherent) within the consciousnesses of all creatures great and small...

PS loved reading the haiku-etic/poetic string of gratitudes in your side bar, too! <3

It always fascinates me that they make them with only their beaks and they carry sticks that are huge in relation to their bodyweight. Clever and resourceful little creatures!
Any I noticed immediately that you have changed your header - I love that photo - we've seen it before, I think?
Do you ever think about getting another cat?

I've always loved nests. The ones cemented with mud are made by the American Robin. This could be a House Finch or Wren nest.

Wooden sink... what a lovely thought! My mom is a great birder and she shares her passion for that freely, so the birding has rubbed off on me too. A nest is a good home. Beautiful place you have here. I've found you via Christine of Mystic Meanderings. :o)

Imagine just having that native intelligence to cobble together a home like that. How is it that the saying "bird brained" carries such a negative connotation?! I suspect that your kitties harbour a fascination with our fine-feathered friends as well, though for other reasons.

I love finding little nests. Too bad this one is vacant. But now it is your treasure to keep.

To be born a natural weaver!
I love nests as well. Just knowing a family was raised there is heartwarming.

This is a wonderful find Suki!
I can picture it in a museum.
