The disc is finished

Finally glued on handmade and purchased beads and mounted the rice paper onto a 32 by 22 piece of purchased handmade paper. The handmade paper is uneven, as they often are, so it is hard to mount the rice paper correctly.

Here is how it looked last time I posted about it.

Glued ammonite and fake diamonds onto the disc center

rolled paper handmade bead painted with acrylics, fake pearls

The silver piece in the center I purchased at a bead shop and added pearls in the two little holes in the bead.

I dont know why I am making these wall hangings. I have 7 now and a new one started. Most are around 22 by32 and unframed. They hang via strings attached to the back. I dont know if anyone would want to buy one nor how much to charge. People are so concerned with things being archival nowadays. I am not. I figure maybe if I were famous and my work would increase in value over time, yes.

But that is not the case. These are pleasure of the moment only. If they last my own lifetime and a bit beyond that is okee-dokey with me.

Suki, I think your wall art pieces are fabulous! And, I think there is a market for them. Have you considered approaching a local shop (coffee shop, bookstore, etc) to see if they would like to hang them? Price them and give the shop 30%. I totally agree with you regarding archival materials. I paint with acrylics and use papers in my collage, with no thought to whether it will be around 100 years from now. Good grief....way more important things to worry about!

Lovely, Suki. I had been thinking of doing a wall hanging with encaustic. And I agree with the post above me!

The colors and textures in your work always blows me away (in a good way!) I like your philosophy of a piece to enjoy in the moment, not worrying about being archival.
I do think these would sell in a wonderful boutique somewhere. Do you have such a place there? I have a feeling you'd be too shy to approach the shop owner :)

I absolutely LOVE them!! Suki, you can put them on my table at YART if you wish :)

Suki, the finished result is gorgeous! I am happy you gave us some up-close shots of the bead detail.... my mind immediately thought of YART......I'm going to "assist" Lo at her table....and would be so happy to present your work to the public! It's something I am good at! Bring them!

Lovely wall hanging Suki. I am with you, I like to see what time does to a piece of art and I figure if a piece lasts as long as the life of the person who buys it that is good enough for me. It is good that you do art for yourself, that is how it should be, but like others have said you could sell them, perhaps in your ETSY shop. xoxo

I so admire how you take these layers of fabulous things and make them into something remarkable. I think art should come from the heart. Obviously yours does. It is beautiful as you are. Don't worry about archives. People will treasure them no matter. The great artists of the past didn't worry about archives. They just created with what they had. Of course someone wants them. Put a price you are happy with on them and let them find a home.

thanks all for your kind words and thoughts.

Yart--i think these are too big, remember they are 22 by 32 or something. plus i would hesitate to have them outdoors as the wind might wreck them.

i dont know any shops up here that would gel with these. remember--boonies. very few outlets and many of those are most sophisticated. these are sort of earthy and rough or something.

i'm not too shy really. on the Cape i went about to shops and took a few rejections in my time and a number of acceptances too. an adventure, but there there are a gazillion options. plus i went to lots of craft fairs. i dont see these pieces at outdoor fair venues but maybe indoors.

Lots to think about Suki. Your hangings look very tactile and I just want to touch them!

I love the way the finished piece looks - so soft and calm looking. If its not a windy day, they'd look lovely on KJ and Janets fence for YARt.

It's like my bowls. I can't stop making them and have a kazillion of them but oh well.....

You do Art because it makes you happy & its healing. Take them to the YART and see what they do. Its really very pretty.

I love that you are on a roll with these. It is a true series. And you are a true artist. And "archival" leaves very little room for wabi sabi to occur :)

I'd take them to YART and put them in a big folder that people can open and look through. Maybe leave one out on top of a table laying flat weighted down.
It's so hot there now there won't be any wind don't you think? They are lovely and funky and the right person(s) will love giving you a good price.
Good luck with this.Glad to see you putting your creative energies to work!

The last photo shows us some really awesome textures! And I like all your faux jewels added.I'm sure there is a market for these,,,finding it is the trick, I think. Not just for you, but for all artists.
Yart sounds good to me,,,there's always a way to protect them,,,,be innovative.
As for archival,,I agree with what's been said.If a buyer loves one enough to purchase it, they will see that it's displayed in an archival way. (think old museum pastels and graphite drawings,,,still around, and on paper)

I also think this is fabulous. It reminds me of a mandala but with much more depth to it, and also of a photo of a nebula out in the cosmos.

This piece is spectacular, Suki - I love the details. I'm a person who loves to really look into a work and love little visual surprises. The handmade paper beads are beautiful and the pearls go so well with them. I also love the pattern within the paper - it is all quite feminine and lovely - especially as I know a little of what is underneath it all.

thanks everyone for your suggestions as to how i might display these at YART.

I'll think about it.

Kimmie, I love what you said about archival doesnt leave room for Wabi-Sabi. lOL. so true.

I agree with all that was said before. Try them at YART and see if there is an interest in them. I bet you'll be surprised. I make my art for my own pleasure and then stick them in the Etsy Shop. If they sell I'm happy, and if they don't I don't worry about it. Everything sells eventually. As for price, you have to determine how much your time is worth. Don't cheat yourself.

Lo and I discussed your wall hangings last night..and we do think they could be hung on the fence..... we would monitor them in case the wind came up....

Think about it....

love the finished hanging. it has a mystical ethereal feel. And here's the answer. You are making them because you have to! This is what wants to be made by you these days! Keep on!
