Im still working on this image. Acrylic paint, poppy leaves, oil pastel on rice paper. I still need to add beads and baubels and perhaps some wax. The white areas will be removed, the top will be curved.
First came this sketch in my sketchbook. For once, the sketch was a precursor for the larger work!
An earlier version/layer of the top painting. I am thinking I should switch away from this flimsy rice paper. Maybe paint on unstretched canvas or something. Not sure.

This is a great post, so nice to see how you change things up as needed. The rice paper gives a fragile look but the heavier fabric could be an interesting change too. I'll stay close for new reports!

Love the "Gothic-like Arch"....and of course, the Angel. It's "Suki Meets Chagall"! I mean this a total compliment.... for YEARS, Chagall was as "modern" as I could go.... volunteering at the de Young has taught me a lot and opened my eyes....
No matter what medium you choose - your passion is clearly displayed....I guess that's why I love your art!

This is coming along very nicely.
As Blue Sky said, the rice paper has a really nice look. But if you wanted something less flimsy, but still somewhat pliable, have you tried canvas paper? It might be just the ticket.
I always like when you include the spirals.
suki, very nice and very interesting. i wonder if i write instead of draw or paint is in part because i don't think i could give up, in this case, the precursor sketch. i like that so much too.

I love how this is coming along. I think you're on a wonderful roll with these pieces Suki.
Canvas does come in a pad with perhaps the largest being 11x14. And if I remember, it's not expensive.
I just rummaged through my stash. I have a pad of 12x16 by Fredrix but the price is gone. So is all the paper!
thanks your your comments and encouragements! Canvas paper, yes but it would be way smaller than i have been working here. i'll see. i have ahuge roll of unstretched canvas not even unwrapped from it's wrapper waiting to be used and cut into whatever sizes i like.
Robin, I love Chagall and often look at a book of his paintings I own especially for the colors which i think are just gorgeous.

lovely work ... I always like to see how a work evolves ! For this painting , the rice paper seems to be so right, because of it's fragility !!!
