Rocambole Garlic-- Alluim sativum ophioscorodon

I love garlic and have been know to eat raw cloves at times. On Saturday, I bought this Rocambole garlic at the farmer's market . I had never heard of it. This is a hard-necked variety (the garlic we usually get in the grocery store is soft-necked) and grows well in cold climates. In the spring it boasts a coiled flower stalk that can also be eaten.

I could take these bulbs apart and plant each clove now for harvesting next year. But I plan to use them in cooking and salad dressings. Yum.

I love to roast whole bulbs of garlic cloves, then spread the soft garlic on bread. Mmm.

Yummmmm.......I am a lover of garlic too! Like to roast those bulbs as Willow suggests and take them along on a hike.... they are delicious... of course, garlic is wonderful on so many things.....plus, it's healthy and....don't forget, it keeps the Vampires away!

Love,

They have a town in CA that does a garlic festival every year. My dad used to always go to it. He loved garlic.

I wasn't familiar with this particular garlic either, but it's beautiful. Garlic--YUM.

Cris must be referring to the Gilroy Garlic Festival. I understand they offer garlic ice cream.

Growing up in Croatia I remember very well of this kind in my mom's garden.
Garlic and onions are used daily in my cooking. The benefits are great, my family is healthy. It works better than flu shot.
