Everlasting Moments

As many of you know, creativity, whether in words, paint, music, dance, the sciences, is a life thread that can lift us out of the daily world and into another realm. A realm that touches and enlivens our spirit, our soul.

In this movie director Jan Troell (The Emigrants) has depicted the life of Maria Larsson, a real woman from Troell's wife's family history, in a film of great beauty.

Maria Larsson, beautifully acted by Maria Heiskanen, wins a camera, which in the early part of her marriage she hides away in a cupboard. Her husband is both charming, when not drinking, and chaotic and cruel when drinking.

Maria intends to pawn the camera, she has 7 children and a hard life, but is convinced to keep it and begin taking pictures. And thus, her spirit and soul are saved from despair.

The film is sepia in tone. The story takes place in Sweden in the early 1900's when cameras were new. The film won Best Foreign Language film in the 65th Golden Globe awards. It IS available from Netflix.

Suki, This sounds like a wonderful film. I know for me I would die a slow death if I could not create.
I hope all is well. Thank you for all your sweet and thoughtful comments of late dear Suki.

Hi Suki....as we discussed, I saw this film earlier in the year and was really touched by it.... sad, yet strong - and in the end, so inspirational!

Hope you are having a lovely Autumnal Day...it's gorgeous here!

I wonder if it's ON DEMAND? I sure will look for it. Thanks again, the trailer was simply beautiful.
(not the abuse parts of course, but I can tell the film is excellently done...love the time period, costumes, color, etc.)
