I have posted this photo before, a few years ago. Mom was 90 here and I'm sure we were celebrating something or other. I am lucky to have lived with her for her last year. As many of you have heard before, being together turned around our past relationship 180 degrees. I came to know Mom in such a different light. To see her delicacy, her humor, her shyness and her courage. Well, I always knew she was courageous, but in this case her courage in the face of her aging self and impending death.
I am getting to know my son anew also as he lived far away from me for many years. And today he will come and cook a meal for me. He's a great cook too. So my life has been blessed. I've been both a daughter and a mother (although from a young age I asked that Aaron call me Susan--in fact at this point I think it'd be cool if he called me Mom). As Joni Mitchell says, I've looked at Mom's from both sides now.
blessings to all, love Suki

Such a beautiful, heartfelt post.
I love this photo of your Mother and your son. I know your Mother still watches over you and her grandson. You were a loving caregiver to her - and you will always have that treasured memory....
And....tonight, a wonderful dinner prepared for you! There is no better gift! I am so happy you have a close relationship with your son.
Love,
♥ Robin ♥
Suki, this is an awesome post! How you must treasure the photo of your mom and your son...it is really memorable.
I spent the last year of my Mom's life with her as well, and I'm so glad I did, since I didn't really know her before this. She taught me many things that last year...not a little of which was her amazing courage.
I'm so glad Aaron is cooking a meal for you...it sounds like it will be a lovely warm time for you both. Happy Mother's Day, dear Suki! xo
Funny how everything is perfect...your time there has been so wonderful reconnecting with both your mother and now your son. Enjoy your dinner and after dinner walk!
What a treat, to have your adult child move close to where you live, and come over to cook you a meal. Does it get any better than that?
It must have meant so much to your mother that you spent those last days of her life truly getting to know each other.
Happy Mothers's Day to you, too.
Happy Mother's Day Suki! Enjoy your time with your son and your meal!
xoxo
Happy Mother's day Suki,

enjoy! and happy mother's day ;-)
Have a wonderful day with your son Suki, while remembering your mom. Happy Mother's Day!
This post brought tears to my eyes reading it. I like how you said you would like him to call you Mom now. Could be a deep seeded root of your reason for stalling moving away. Also this month it will be 16 years ago my mom passed away. I still miss her.
What a joy to be able to have your son with you on Mothers Day. I hope you had a great time together.
Happy Mother's Day, Suki! You are blessed to have a son who wants to come cook for his mum on Mother's Day. That is very cool.
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day, Suki. It's good that you are able to renew your relationship with your son. All the best to you.
