Marsh low, marsh high

Outside the window I watch the waters ebb and flow, rise and fall. Marsh low.

With the full moon (I think) the high marsh water tide was very high. This is approximately the same view as above.

Otherwise:

found a house in excellent condition

yard also pristine and beautifully landscaped by owner

price doable

size 1000 square feet, also doable

saw twice, once with a friend who said "You will have to decide if you can live with the highway sounds."

Yes, very close by is a four lane highway going between the bridge and Falmouth. Especially busy this time of year. Also the house itself rests on a fairly busy road, with fast going cars which are entering the highway.

Gave realtor the earnest money check to hold. Filled out offer forms with realtor but did not sign. Took back to where I am staying to sleep on it. Chose NOT to continue with the offer process.

Wonder at myself and my cowardice. Think traffic noise not a good excuse for not proceeding forward. This is what I did before. I can always find a reason not to proceed. Well, I got farther than I have so far. :) HAPPY JULY 4th to all those who celebrate the holiday.

It's a great start Suki, but I think the car noise would bother me, but you are starting to make decisions and actions! "The best is yet to come!"

Too bad they don't have a "Sleep Over" clause where you could spend the night, then decide...

Oh...1000 square feet, I am envious!

And your photos, just makes me feel like I was there with you, waking up to foggy mist and watching it burn away to a lovely day!

Well the noise IS a big consideration...and you have the cats. I am not sure I would like the noise either. But like Teri C said.. you ARE getting further then you have.

Teri C.Thanks. I have been feeling sort of "princesy" about my choice. Yes, it does feel good to take some further steps.

Teri and the cats: I have always thought home buyers should get to stay overnight in a prospective purchase to just feel it out. I mean these things cost so much money one wants to "try it on" as one would a dress before buying.

Cris, I have pretty much decided that re: cats they will have to be indoor cats almost anywhere I buy. Either that or i will put up a screened porch for them. Although someone told me they did a coyote kill here a few years ago which has reduced their numbers, we used to have lots of cat killing coyotes here besides the traffic!

mmm i do think the place has to 'talk to you', it must feel like 'home' despite traffic (you soon get used to that anyway)...and all places have their advantages and disadvantages...suppose you have already done this- i write a priority list of what is most important to me when buying such a large item. e.g. there must be a bathroom window....in this way i can immediately cut out the unnecessaries and focus on the must haves.

Yes, yes, no...
I wouldn't like the noise either.

Traffic noise sucks altho it probably wouldn't be bad in the winter

Something else will come along. I don't like traffic noise. WE have it where we live. UGH...

Traffic noise isn't always the best. Happy 4th to you, too, Suki!

Love the marsh photos. So peaceful and calm.

You will find the right house and you will know it when it happens, Goldilocks.

Road noise is a big consideration, but you're getting closer I think!

Happy Fourth of July! I have no real plans but I'm sure it will be a fun weekend anyway.

I don't think the traffic noise is a small thing! If something is not exactly what you want, don't do it. You did the right thing. Your perfect house is out there, no hurry and no worries :-).

Hi Suki, I think I would have been very bothered by the noise and would have done the same thing...
You'll find the perfect thing. You are patient, not cowardish. That's fabulous,

suki, jb and i live on a main road with heavy traffic. we bought the house on a whim with plans to move to a better house after settling into the new community. but we put up a six foot fence and now the only thing that is negative is the squooshing noise, which we pretend is the ocean. we love the house and yard so much it's all okay.

i like teri's idea. why not honest to god ask the realtor if you can spend a day and night there? that will tell you, and in this real estate market, i can't imagine the seller would say no.pack up a sleeping bag and feel it out...

in any case, don't give up. you're close...

love

I totally agree with Annie. It's YOUR LIFE we're talking about. You are allowed to be princessy. Don't let any feelings of guilt or "I shouldn't be taking this long" let you rush into any decision. When it is right, you will know it and you will sign.

I came on earlier but my on the road computer knocked me off when I was trying to send you a comment. Now I am in my friends home/computer...I wanted to say that I hoped you'd be able to find the will to commit when the right house came to you...
love all the photos of the cape.

I think you did the right thinng there was probably something which made you stop the bidding , maybe the road the noise or all that traffic.......... Pity
But at least you have started now!
I recognize this feeling of not wanting to do something you know you have to eventually.
I had two moving boxes in my hall just behind the front door. Wit things from my parents house. They stood there for over 3 months I saw them every day and every time I went to work I told myself I would unnnnpack them in my next leave....
I finally did last friday.
It meant I had to let go all these items and memories through my hands again.
I cleared out a cupboard to make room. And the most emotional thing was when I found my Fathers Seaman's Discharge book in the box.....that brought me to tears.

I think there must be a reason for not wanting to do the things that have to be done....(also crying)
You made the first step dear!
I know for sure you will find that house which is there waiting for you to buy it and to make it a happy home!

Don't sign unless you are sure Suki and it seems to me you're not. You are getting warmer still - only you will know when you're hot!

Suki, buying a home is like buying a new lease on life. Not to be taken lightly, for sure.

The right home is so close now...so very close.

What a wonderful view.
Is it yours now?

Suki, Just heard of a book called "How to make a Decision" by Jonah Lehrer. Actually I believe you are doing just fine in your process but it might be an interesting read!
Your photos are lovely!

What a nice contrast in nature's mood. I so enjoyed this post. Thank you.

Choosing NOT to continue may have been an excellent choice.
As others have said, I'm sure you will know when it's right. When in doubt, doing nothing often is the very best answer.

Hi Suki,
Thinking of you.

What a difference a full moon can make. On water levels and decision-making. But I agree with Teri: highway noise might be a deal breaker for me too.
