Well Continued and five little books

Yesterday I worked on colors and shapes. This is the one on canvas.
This is the foam core version. I have laid the pine needles on top, not glued them yet. Just to see if I like the effect. What do you think?

I worked on the colors on this foam core version too. They are only slightly different from the colors on the canvas version. Maybe that happens when you work on two at the same time. I have the paint mixed on the palette and figure I want to use it up.

Five accordion books finished.

The well paintings are coming along-I like the pine needles and the accordian books are lovely.

Suki, these Well paintings are really progressing nicely. I love it you are working on both of these at the same time...similar, yet different. I think the pine needles add a realism to the relief painting and show it as you probably experienced the original inspiration at some times of the year. How did it feel to you?

Now you know I adore your accordion books and these are really a treasure. Are they tiny?

You are an artist of so many talents, Suki. Additionally, you are an inspiration to so many of us.

Thanks!

Well these are good. I like them both. The foam core board looks so real and I do like the pine needles on there.
Your accordian books make me feel like opening a gift. A lovely feeling. :)) You keep coming up with great ideas.
BTW Does your Ex still sculpt? What does he do with them or did with them? put them in gallerys?
My DH cousin in Montana does sculpting and has them around.

Thanks annie. More painting to do on the foam core piece before gluing on the pine needles.

Kim these are small paintings, both 12 x 12, so as one dries I can work on the other. Thanks for your comments re: pine needles. I am still thinking about whether to put them on or not. In another sense I might as well glue them on as that is the advantage of doing several versions. If I dont like one there is the next one to work on. The accordion books are 2" by 3". Well thanks. I am inspired by all of you guys out there too.

Soulbrush, your artworks and life inspire me. Thanks for your "vote" re: the pine needles.

Thanks Cris. The ribbons are not really needed to keep the books closed but I agree that for Xmas they add something making it feel like opening a gift when opening the book. I have 5 more to glue up and put together awaiting me.

My ex does not make any sculpture or any art right now as he is quite ill with lung cancer and getting chemo. When he did make art he occasionally would show in a gallery but he was not aggressive about finding a place for himself. He did have some sculptures on display outside at the Syracuse Art Museum many years ago. Large welded steel pieces.

I'm voting for the needles too.Oh, and maybe with lots of glazes like Kim refers to in her post today,,,,,,,deepening them way down into the work. Wonder how that would look?
I just love coming to everyone's blog and observing what all each is working on. You never disappoint! Love those little treasure books too, Suki!

I love the use of the pine needles. The well is outdoors and bringing more nature to it is appropriate and wonderful.

Your books are delightful and look ready for sale for christmas gifts. Good luck with this.

Babs, thanks for your vote. I am hoping to do glazing on both of these. I hadnt actually thought abt glaze on the pine needles though. That would be interesting. Thanks for all your comments.

Lynn, not sure i will sell these books. I most likely will use them for Xmas gifts. Although suppose I could list one or two.

Thanks Marianne. You always say such encouraging words. The books are blank inside for someone to write a poem or thoughts.

Teri, I love making books although I am not perfect at it as i am so right brained. I try to use my left brain with the measuring needed but they end up Wabi-Sabi.

Suki, I like both well paintings, the canvas shows a strong swirl and depth of water. I like the needles. How are you feeling about the progress of the wells? This is so interesting to watch your process. Love the books too!

Both the painting and the foam core are looking good, girl! I think I like the 3-D version best, and yes, I like the straw on it.
Your books are just gorgeous. I really like the purply-blue ones best.

Blue Sky Dreaming: thank you. so far I'm okay with how things are going but i'd like to get more depth in the one that swirls. Lots more to do. Often while things are in process I have either a bad opinion best not voiced or no opinion. these, I do like the colors that are coming out. I am not good at painting water so it will have to by abstract/symbolic. I am waiting to see what happens next.!

Katie Jane, the books with the purple covers are covered with rice paper I decorated with acrylic paints. I think I like those best too. Thanks for your reflections on the wells. I think just about everyone likes the pine needles. So onward.

Suki... the well is awesome... so real and impressive... like a real one i can sit by it and watch it for a long time... pondering and musing...
the needles add a sense of connection... as if the well is communicating with the nature around it...
we see nothing in the painting but the well... the needles, however, tell us that the well is not alone... it is surrounded by lots of things... trees, etc...

Human being, thank you for your eloquent comments. Yes, the well is not alone. I have thought of doing a painting that shows the surrounding earth too. This well is flat to the land, and two ends of it are full of overflowing water, but two sides have earth around it.
