big draw day 28

Pen in Moleskin. I have a gridded moleskin. Gridded paper seems very French to me. Colette wrote on gridded paper. And a friend brought me a gridded notebook from Paris in which I wrote a lot of wonderful stories.

I also played with water colors y'day. I still don't "get" them. I keep thinking my painting should be done in a first draft. Well, no way. So I did a second draft later. What I mean is I added more paint to this draft.

yes the watercolour does work...it's a sorta vague type of painting, but i do like it lots (from one genius to another!)

Suki, you did a great job putting more colour on the first draft, I like the way you formed the shapes of the nature and the little house is cute!
The acorn is nice on the gridded paper too, I personally don't use gridded paper cause I don't like the lines of the grid to interfere with mine:) but here it looks nice

Marianne, you are too kind. I do think this is one of my better tries, however i have a long way to go.

Xzone, thanks for stopping by.

Soulbrush, vague, yes, my watercolors come off that way although other people's arent so vague. How do they do it?

Andrea, it is funny, but the grid lines dont bother me. I really dont even see them. But this notebook was really for writing in. I wont do a lot of sketches here.

Beautiful job with the watercolor. I like the drawing too. I have not done watercolors since I was in my twentys, I found it easy then, but now I know it would be a challenge.

Thanks Annie. I find it easier when I think of the watercolor as an embellishment to a drawing but when I use it in itself if feels weak. But that's probably my technique and lack of practice.

I like how you worked this Suki. I know next to nothing about the actual, proper process of w.c.,,,I just know when I do or see something I like. And I like this.
The fact that it is not rendered perfectly,is the best part to me. Love the 'ambiguity',,,it says house,,,but it's not tightly drawn.
Hope you understand what I mean,,,sometimes the words don't come,,,,!!

PS: The colors make me think of your header!

sukipoet said...

human being I love that poem. great image and imagination.

Thanks Babs, I was looking out my window so probably picked up some of those brown, orange blues similar to that glorious place in the header.

oh yes.. the colors are like your header. you are feeling the colors of fall there and adapting to your painting. Watercolors are hard to me. I would rather paint in oils. actually I am enjoying the colored pencils. all you need is a sharpener. :) So good going on work things out with it. practice makes perfect.
I would draw in a lined notebook if someone sent me one from Paris. wow. Why that makes it more special I dont know but it does.
Good acorn drawing
HOpe you dont get to much snow and cover up all that bright beauty there in white.

I've always thought gridded paper was cool. There was a boy in 5th grade who was an outstanding artist and he always had gridded paper notebooks, which I thought were so chic. :)

I love seeing your explorations into all these different media.

Suki, You have wonderful art supplies...pens, moleskin. I'm cashing in a gift certificate to buy some new brushes today. Love the second watercolor. I don't "get" watercolors at all but you seem to have created strong vibrant color...nice!

Suki, I really like your drawing. I have used gridded paper for sketching or thinking before. Mainly I think it has to do with using quad (grid) paper so much and using it to work out details in design before I would draft it. So I get that. I have a big, fat journal which is quad paper.

And your watercolor is really incredible. I love how you have done it in layers like that. When I first worked with watercolors they annoyed me to absolutely no end. Once I gave up control of the medium, I began to like it more.

I love your drawing so much...all of that detail is really great. It could also be a great jumping off place for a neat abstract.

Thanks Suki!

Cris, well so far at 5 pm on tuesday we have had only rain, which is okay by me. I will keep trying with watercolors despite the fact that I am not very good with them. I long to conquer!!!

lynn, thanks. Keep trying is my motto. Up to a point anyway.

Willow, wow, I am so unchic that I'm glad to think of my gridded notebook as chic. Makes me feel all sophisticated. :)

thanks teri. I like to try new things for sure.

blue sky, new brushes. I definitely need those. They cost a fortune too, for good ones. Best get as good as you can get. I admit I indulge a bit with the art supplies since I am not paying rent here at Mom's. It gives me some leeway.

kim I would like to try an abstraction soon. some of my things are so simple they border on abstract. Thanks for your kind comments re: watercolor. I will learn slowly but surely.

Suki, Just got back from art supply store with 3 flat brushes with 30% off...not high quality. I went over my gift amount by $5 because I found ink in three beautiful colors?! Oh well, it is hard being frugal. You are smart to buy high quality if you can!

soulbrush said...

i know what you mean about darker more intense watercolours, dunno how its done...
there's an award for you on my blog cos I WUV YOUR BLOG!

sukipoet said...

Mary Ann, how exciting to have these new supplies. Believe me I do not buy the best quality either due to finances and the exhorbitant cost of brushes nowadays. And who can resist inks. Have fun.

Hi Soulbrush. Ok will check it out. Thanks.

Yes, I agree, lovely watercolor.
Acorn? Wow! Fooled me. The enlargement of the acorn creates abstraction.

sukipoet said...

Chewy thanks. Well, maybe I am just not good at drawing, that could be why the acorn doesnt look like an acorn.
