Big draw day 18

micron pen, sanguine pencil, conte crayon black and sepia. I liked this torn leaf until I colored in the left and bottom edges of the page. I messed it up and kept trying to fix it. Oh well.

"I discovered that drawing not only expresses our feelings and perceptions; it can change them as well. When drawing arises directly from inner sensation, it can be a remarkable agent for healing." C.S. Siegel Spirit of Drawing pg.26

beautiful quote. The torn leaf looked like a chart to me of a lost continent.
hope your fingers are better?
Take care and have a nice weekend!

I too saw a map and water...and now I see the leaf as well. I like following your thoughts that guide or come from your drawings Suki. You put a lot of thought into what you do. Even the quote meant much to me.

I'm glad you liked my little purse. I'll tackle another today!

Marianne, I love that, a chart of a lost continent. Maybe it is! Fingers go up and down depending on how often I type with them. Karen Mowry suggested it might be gout which can affect fingers I guess and that i might eat cherries. So, guess I'll eat some cherries and see.

Thanks Annie. Hope you have a great WE too.

I saw a map & water too. How funny.
I had a teacher once say that not every painting, drawing or what ever is going to turn out how we want it. But that doesnt mean failure, it only means we do it again & maybe again and learn from what we did before. Thats how we grow.

I also saw a map. Maybe you should elaborate on that.

Love the quote.

Lynn, you guys are great. I love what you all say about my drawings. Siegel has some wonderful things to say in her book. Her approach is not didactic but quite meditative and inward.

Cris, thanks for passing on those words from your teacher. I do hope I am growing. And never stop till the day I die.

Teri, funny you say that abt elaborating on the map idea. I was just sitting here daydreaming and thinking about that, wondering what my imagination would come up with. Actually I love maps. I rarely go anywhere but my car is full of maps and i have boxes of them too. Hmmmm.....food for thought.

Hi Suki,

I think it is so cool how you began with the leaf idea and I can see that so clearly, but the idea of a map came up for me initially, as well. The red is fantastic, though. So the coloring in at the bottom just did not render this the way you were considering when you began. But you have a really nice drawing/piece of art never-the-less!

And the quote is fantastic, I agree!

Thanks, Suki!

Oh thanks kIm. The thing is I felt lazy with coloring in the background and tried to get it done fast with some charcoal and then seemed to have just a big mess and tried to cover that over with more conte crayon, sepia. All this included blurring it with a Kleenex. So, yes, it just didnt looks as neat and tidy as it did before I did all this. Thanks for you kind words about the drawing.

oh yes it is a map to me, too...
and very lovely...

agree with the quote... whenever i'm not in a good mood and i start coloring or painting or doodling, after some time i notice my feeling is totally changed and i'm looking at the problem from another p.o.v.
