Night

On her blog human being challenged us to write a poem about "Night." Here is mine. See her blog for links to others who have also written night poems here.

A walk on the road
One moonless night.
Sounds amplify:
feet against dirt,
the wind on the leaves,
the scurry of an animal
in the bush. Trees
loom dark against a dark sky.

At the pond:
plop of a frog,
plunk of a turtle,
the smell of rotting grass,
faint musk of deer,
and in the water,
dark ripples
awaiting the dawn.

Awe, Suki! Walking in the dark and sounds amplify! Oh how it is true...but your sounds create the most beautiful images.

Thank you so much for this.

A little while back you said on my blog you had a rotoring pen like mine and was disappointed it did not come with waterproof ink. I have found something you might consider. I purchased a fillable ink barrel. I am not sure about how that ink flows through the pen...I have just started doing this. If you have other questions, please email me. artist[at]kimrodefferfunk[dot]com

Thanks Suki...you are always an inspiration. By-the-way, shall we exchange links? Let me know.

Suki, this is just gorgeous!
your poem is really walking... in the form... in the way words come one after another...
and this walk is so special... unique... a walk on a moonless night... when your eyes cannot see... and the Fox in the Little Prince says:

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

this is a link to this book . you can read it online:

And you show us s new picture of night painted mostly by sounds...

The ending is a big WOW!
your night for me had a sense of waiting and growing like a fetus in a womb.... to be born.

Very deep... very impressive.
Thanks for accepting my invitation... thanks for letting us see the world through the beautiful window of your soul.
Love... hugs... kisses

P.S.
I put a link to your poem in my blog.

Thanks for the ocmments re: my poem. When I first wrote it a sort of depressing ending arose but I waited and this one came.

Kim, I have seen that fillable ink barrel in Dick Blick catalogue and think I will purchase it and try it out. I like the pen quite well and thus can put waterproof ink in.

Be glad to exchange links. What does that mean. In the blogroll list?

Thanks human being for the kind words on my poem. I'll check out that little prince link. Love the quote from it.

Elizabeth thanks for reading. Yes, I guess I thought that if I couldnt see, sounds and smells would leap out.

Andrea, love the little frog, the turtle. Course not sure they would be plopping at night but everytime I go down there in the day the frogs plop back into the pond to run from me.

Frogs plop at night too. I love night sounds.

I felt like I was there with you on the walk hearing the sounds of the night.
Wish I could write.

i like this a lot ..."sounds amplify" - it really captures the experience of nighttime walking - at least that's how it is in and around my parts ...

Debra Kay, actually now you mention it maybe frogs don't plop at night! I've never gone down there to the pond in the dark.

Cris, you can write! You write lovely pieces in your blog.

Thanks Lynn.

FY I do believe we are all poets of one sort or another.

Honor, thanks for stopping by and for your comments. Sounds like you live in the country too perhaps. I'll check out yr blog for your answ to my !
