More signs of spring

Maybe this is an old apple tree. Not sure.

Some call it a weed. I say, medicinal herb and food. The new leaves lend a bitterness to the salad. The root can be medicinal. Also, you can make dandelion wine as my brother did once many years ago. It was tastly.

These last two I don't know what they are.

But they are pretty.

So glad spring is there to show it's beauty to you!
Today I took a lot of dandelions out and my husband told me that the president of Ivory Coast (his parents lived there long ago), Félix Houphouët-Boigny let dandelions leaves flown in from Paris for his salad.
What a coincidence to find you mention the salad also today.
Have a nice weekend Suki!

Hi Suki!

These are great inspiration for us all...thank you!

Dandelion wine is suppose to be good, but I have never had it. When we lived in England they had a plant there on the heath called gorse (you may remember it from Winnie-the-Pooh...who talked about the gorse and heather - he must have lived near the heath which is full of those plants) Anyway, our neighbor there told us she used to make wine from the gorse blossoms which were also yellow. She didn't drink otherwise, but loved gorse wine. Of course collecting those blossoms had to be difficult as gorse is full of prickles.

Your post just reminded me of this story.

Thanks Suki!

the top one--the red flowers--is a red maple. i'm not sure about the second though i think it's a plantain of some sort.

happy spring!

thanks Mary. You are so good at identifying plants and such. If I had my herb and wildflower books with me i could look them up.
