Dreams

Reading kikipotamus' dreams reminded me that I wanted to relay a dream I had last night.

The last dream was this: I look in the mirror and see a dark spot on my earlobe. I squeeze the spot and a black bug of some sort comes out. It is long and gross so I turn away from the mirror.

I had this dream after a series of dreams that meld together in my memory. The police come for my son, aged 8, to protect him, they say, from some evil crime that is happening in the neighborhood. I decide I too want to go somewhere safe so I begin to pack. I go up in an attic and find tons of stuff,( a recurring dream situation). Once back downstairs I see that my neighbor has parked a large yellow dirt lifting machine between our houses. None of these things make any sense to me, not that dreams are supposed to make sense. The house I lived in was the 20 year rental house that I left 3 years ago.

I love dreams. Your dream is full of some pretty obvious symbolism, at least from where I sit. They say we can read our own dreams, that we know what the symbols are. If you think of the attic as your head and the basement as your secrets or conscience (whichever fits best) it can be helpful. Often other people represent parts of ourselves and body parts represent what they do more than what they are. Are you hearing something that feels long and gross to you? You've certainly got a lot of stuff running around in your mind, especially being away from home but in a different home...have fun with your dreams. I sometimes keep a dream journal which is great fun. It really helps during transitional times such as you're going through. It helps clarify what you're thinking but don't always acknowledge in your waking life. I love dreams!

I dont recall my dreams. When I do its because I have been going thru some sort of turmoil. You certainly are there at the moment. Maybe you can write a book about your winter with Mom. Stuck in snow freezing with workshop you freeze in trying to create... coming to grips with yourself and your Mom.
NO? hmm maybe thats why I don't write. lol

I love dreams too. They helped me a lot to grow... In fact I owe much to them!
I agree with Mary about the symbolism of attic(mind) and ear( listening) ... insects usually denote our worries, fears and problems...
And you find out about this bug when you look at the mirror( intospection... searching the self).

The police shows the need for control and organization... Packing is change in the life or the way we think...
Suki, think this dream is one of those big dreams... it shows a transitional period ... in order to change and find security, you should leave or throw away some stuff(thoughts? attitudes? habits? worries?) ... you cannot take them with you.. so you should find what they are and resolve them... you should listen ... don't be afraid if you find something gross... all our supressed feelings are like that... when we face them, we are released... and in this way we feel safe...
Thus, your future (son) will be secure and free from worries.

Your dream says you CAN do this because YOU looked at the window and that was YOU finding the bug ( which is bugging your life).

Sorry fo much crowing.. crows love dreams...
A big hug....

Thanks Mary. I love dreams too and kept a dream journal for years. I must have a lot of attic worries as this is an oft repeated dream, trying to clear out the clutter in the attic. Yes, I do tend to think everything in the dream is me. HB mentioned, below, about maybe something is bugging me. That sort of clicks re the bug. I'm not sure what the hearing thing means though as I am not hearing much as no one talks up here and I have no one to verbally out loud talk to.

Cris, thanks for the suggestion about writing about Mom and winter. Truthfully I wish i could write anything. i have been frozen in the writing department for some time except for my blog.

thanks hb for your thoughts on my dream. Much of what you say makes sense to me. I like the idea of throwing away the old attitudes habits and so forth in order to allow in the new. It think I am in some transition of some kind. Getting birthed into a new me. I think you are right that even if the bug I am hearing grosses me, I should not turn away. They say face the demons in your dreams. Lots to think about. Thank you.

Big hugs to everyone!!!

Attic would be the head, intellect, I think. As for dreaming of a house you used to live in...my analyst would always ask "what does that period of your life represent for you?" The answer = what your unconscious is working on right now.

If you feel that you are giving birth to yourself in some way now, then that is for sure. What an exciting but scary thing that can be!

Don't feel an expert on dreams interpertation at all but loved reading what everyone else had to say here. Very Interesting.

Came over to see Lizzie's bday party - how wonderful of you to do that for her! and creative! Stayed to read this - love dreams, find them fascinating. Ever done a drea extension? Ask questions with your dominant hand, answer with your nondominant hand? It works (I have no idea how). You can ask anything in your dream to explain itself to you. I did a thing on a boot once, that turned into Italy and the Catholic Church and then discovered that Italy is new and many Greeks (my paternal grandfather heritage) lived in southern Italy - and on and on. Fun stuff! Lately I can't hold on to my dreams but I think you have to pay attention and write them down or your subconscious says: oh, not important, and won't hold on. I'm out of practice in the dream realm.
