from Grandmother's 1916 London Diary

January 23, l916

Up about ten oclock, and had breakfast in the room, and after Mr. & Mrs. Wells and George and I went out to see Jennie.  She lives at Gillingham, Kent, 38 miles from London.  It was a beautiful drive.  We took her for a drive and she treated us for tea.  Coming home we were held up by a centry at the point of a bayonet for our lights and told to put them out.  Went to Simpson's for dinner.  Weather beautiful.

My Gram's spelling.

What a wonderful diary. Fun to look back to another era. Your Gram looks a lot like my Gram looked back then. I had to look twice. Hope you post more pages.

Utterly delightful and conjures so many images and a very specific time period with an economy of words.

Hi Suki, I am also glad you post these, because they are quite inspiring. Your Grandmother seems as though she led a lovely life in London, despite the bayonet incident.

I also love your new header!

PS, remember your Grandmother didn't have spell check like many of us! I am thankful every single day for it!
