Author Photo--Pick one

Been working on my poetry manuscript.  Mailed contract and manuscript to publisher last week and am now working on author photo.  Both photos were taken by my son. The one I chose will be used on the back cover and/or for publicity.

The back cover photo is only about 2 inches by three inches.   Which one would you chose?????  (Robin I am wearing your scarf in both photos but it only shows up in the second one.)

Both are wonderful - but the first photo really draws you in - your expression is intriguing making me want to know more.

I like the first picture because you're smiling more. This is exciting.

I like the first one too. You look mysterious, glamorous. Fabulous.

FIRST ONE! Beautiful lady, beautiful bone structure - mysterious smile.... Judy is right....the photo draws one in....#1 please! #2 is good...but looks like the *typical* photo Authors put on their bask cover...
You ARE #1.

(The scarf looks gorgeous on you...as does that Beret!)

Love, from one hat wearer to another! This is such an exciting time for you! I feel it even in *soggy* SF!

Oh dear, decisions, decisions... For some reason I am tending toward the second one. It gives more of a sense of context, and I like the color and line in the scarf that hangs down... Yes, it does look like the "typical" author's photo, but I see that as a good thing :) Looks very professional... Good luck with the choice!

This is harder than it looks. Like often happens, I like something about each one! Love the beret and scarf, too (in fact, you got me wearing berets again, lol)

I, too, like the look in your eye in the first one, but I love the dappled background in the 2nd one.

If it were me, on the first one, I would try and 'erase' out the post you are standing in front of, as it looks like it's coming out of the top of your head.

I am not so good with editing and use free programs, not anything fancy like Photoshop, but it works for stuff like that.

In the 2nd photo, I would maybe crop the right side a tad, so the tree or post isn't showing on the right hand side of the photo.

Can't resist adding my vote...the first one! How exciting in preparing for the publishing!

Teri thanks for the cropping ideas. i dont like that post either. however i dont have photoshop or anything. maybe the publishers can do something, not sure. i could though take the tree out with my windows program.

First one and I can photoshop out the post if you'd like.

I agree with the first photo drawing you in. You have this knowing look in your eye. I also like the dappled light behind you on the second photo, but think the emphasis should be on you, too. So if you slightly crop out the post at the top of the first one, I think you will absolutely have the perfect photo! I just love that glint in your eye!

This is so very exciting!

Suki, I like them both, but I pick the first one for the book.

The first one! There is such charm in your smile and warmth in your eyes shining through. It's very engaging. The second one is more prosaic and less poetic.

The first one...lovely you...

I like the first one - there is more life and spontaneity. The second one is nice too, but looks a little bit posed.

I vote for the first one, too! Lovely. . . and exciting.

For me it has to be the first on- it has soul and courage and warmth. Pick that one, and don't forget to let me know when it comes out- I definitely want a copy.
