Playing with paper

Inspired b yMim's bowls made from dry paper (as opposed to making ones own handmade slurry) I made this bowl. Years ago I made many bowls using the handmade paper method (wet) and sold them at craft fairs. Scraps of paper, dryer sheet, matte medium, acrylic paint.

Began a book made from tissue paper. Theme is France. Cover is a map of Asnienes from a 1913 Baedecker guide I purchased on-line. The map is embedded in a layer of tissue paper.

One of the inside page decorations, not glued yet. The cathedral post card is waxed. Tissue paper pages are two layers of tissue glued with matte medium. This creates a semi-transparent sheet of paper. Surprisingly sturdy.

PS I have tried to comment on several blogs with comment thingy enabled and been unable to do so. I cannot see the words I must type in. So I used the audio but you have to type all 5 words and this is more energy than I want to expend so until bloggers changes the method you won't be seeing my comments. Also sorry couldnt seem to link to Mim.

When I saw your title I had to come over and look. VERY neat. Love your results.

I also have had trouble commenting for the very same reason. So frustrating.

This may explain why I'm seeing so few comments lately...I have actually found on some blogs that if you hit "reply" to an existing comment the button for leaving a regular old comment pops up and you're able to proceed as normal. Frustrating.

I love the bowl. I made several paper maché bowls about a decade ago and still have one holding supplies in my office. It's quite strong. I would love to make more, bowls are one of those iconic items I never tire of...

Love your bowl Suki!
I totally agree with your frustration with the word verification. Your blog has it turned on too! I hope I can get it to work. I turn word verification off on my blog. Comments just post for the first few days after the post. Several days later comments require that I approve them. So you will never have to use word verification at my blog.
So its a choice to use word verification and you can choose not to have it at your blog. You can turn it off. And I don't get weird spam either.

Both are lovely...the bowl and the book. Painted tissue paper always falls apart on me...yours is beautiful and delicate looking!
We are all having comments trouble? Hope is clears up soon.

What a very very lovely bowl...love the gold and love the hanging over part that is spider webby looking. ;-)
The book will be great when done too!

Sorry you can't leave comments. this happens to me once in a while too. Iknow there was something about unchecking a box but I forget which box where. Hopefully someone will tell you.

And hope that does the trick.

Shimmery, ghostlike and a little bit like aurora borealis...love the colors! Other bloggers have commented that they are having trouble leaving comments on my blog, too but didn't describe the problem...sounds frustrating but so far hasn't happened to me.

Thanks Leslie. I have taken off the word verification request on my blog.

Lynn, the problem is not with my blog. The problem is that on your blog, for example, you have the comment word verification on yes you want word verification. when I click publish comment on your blog, no word verification words come up. now that MAY be due to something im my computer. Not sure. but I think it has to do with blogger making some change to its format.

I have found the same annoyance on blogs. You have to find another little slide thing to slide the word into view. It took me a time or two to find it. I imagine Blogger is the culprit.

I like your book. I am facinated with the waxing of things. I haven't tried it but I think it looks amazing.

I love what you have created here Suki and with beautiful Paris as the theme!

My comments have been okay (crossing my fingers) frustrating for you!

sukipoet said...

thanks lisa, but actually I am doing the little slide thing. when the box that should have the word i need to retype in it comes up, there is no word there. the box is empty.

Suki, I just tried my comment box with no request for verification. See if it works for you. Thanks.

I'm having bowl envy, seeing yours and Mim's. It's beautiful. I've never tried to make one.
I adore that page on the right, but it's all beautiful!

Blogger makes my head hurt,,and works on my very last nerve. It seems each blog I go to has something unique to conquer,,,just depending on what day it is.So far, I don't think I've had trouble with yours.

Damn blogger!! Does this happen if you go to Wordpress blogs?

lOVE the bowl, I'm so impressed. We should have a bowl making day.

Love this bowl and book. So rich in texture and color. I like to do single pages in my personal journal the way you've done yours.

I've been having trouble with Blogger also. Sometimes I can't get blogs to scroll down.
Technology! Hmph!

Suki, this is so beautiful! I love the iridescence of these pieces as well as the "spirit" quality they seem to possess. This technique is very, very appealing. Beautiful work!

Your blog is becoming a place to shout out our complaints. I have given feedback to blogger twice and to google too. I am not sure who is causing which problem. I too sometimes cannot get a blog to scroll down to see the post. (Marianne's blog had this issue/then later I could go down it.???Crazy making).

Lynn Cohen said...

so here I did not have to word verify at all. What do you do to make the word verification go away. I keep trying different things but cannot make it go away. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

sukipoet said...

Lynn or anyone else who wants to know:

to remove word verification on your blog go to dashboard.

click on "settings"

click on "comments"

scroll down the comment dialogue box to nearly the end. Where it says something about setting word verification select NO.

beautiful, both the bowl and journal. You have always known how to combine colors and textures.

I hope you're feeling okay after your fall.
