Alone in Winter

Birds search for seeds in frozen turf.
The driveway is thick with mire.
Hidden ice tricks me, flings
me forward onto hip, thrusts
my head against the breezeway frame.
The sky writhes, the ground grasps
my shoulders, my hands weep
crimson. I'm a child again, fearful,
thirsting for a friend's soothing voice.

update: after about 5 days my minor symptoms from the
fall went away. i think i am back to "normal" now! Thanks
for everyone's concern. Suki

Yes...being alone leaves one wanting for comfort at times like that...ever since I found out I have osteoporosis, I am fearful of falling...alone.

Falling is always a scarey thing,,but alone even scarier!
I love how you wrote the poem, Suki,,,,and cheering that you had no broken anythings!!

I am so glad you are okay after your nasty fall... My heart aches for your aloneness... Even though I am not "alone" I understand that feeling. It does go back to that little child inside, doesn't it... I still have those feelings of abandonment...

I LOVE your new Voki! I just had fun playing with that! After it's finished it follows the cursor with its eyes. Made me laugh...

Wishing you Love always...

Brrr! Time to snuggle up to the fire with a good book and a cuppa? It seems you are having a time of trials. I hope it passes soon. Arohanui, Suki.

Slipping on ice and falling hard is such a nasty occurence, only made worse by not having someone near to kiss it all better and offer a soothing cup of tea. I'm glad to hear your worrying symptoms have subsided. Can spring be far behind?

What a beautiful poem about your terrible fall.
I am glad you were not worse(ly) hurt, however, that sounded bad enough.
Scary being alone when something like this happens.
glad you are healing.

And extra thanks again for your help today...even if I CAN'T figure it out! LOL

Glad to hear it, remember - only a phone call away!! (and some driving but that's OK)

I'm glad you're feeling better - That was a scary thing - keep your cell phone in your pocket and a friend is not going to be too far away if it happens again

Keep your cell phone in your pocket...and I hope you never need it to call for help.

And thank you for not having word verification!

life becomes art, suki. but next time i hope your poem is about flying high and feeling fine. how scary to fall and worry without knowing someone will keep a watchful eye.

i second mim. seems like it's a good time to reassure eachother that friendship extends past computer keys.

we're almost into spring, yes? oh yay!

love
kj

the cell phone is pocket is a great idea in theory but if i fall where i live it is no use as cell phones do not work at my house. no reception here.

Suki....only YOU could use a traumatic event - like this fall - to create a beautiful poem...the accompanying photo is perfect! I feel the cold, the texture of the ice covering the snow...the patterned leftover leaves of Autumn...

Congratulations *Voki-Girl*! You did a wonderful job creating your character! I know Vicki *aka Nollyposh* is giggling in Heaven over our learning to *Voki*...

I can relate to your being so isolated...although I am lucky enough to have cell phone service if something happens to me... you know the answer....
(time to M-VE)...

It's wonderful to read Mim and KJ's replies... at least you know you are not quite so alone... I know they would come to you (long drive notwithstanding)if you needed them.

Love to you and Bibs -as we wait for Spring to hurry up and arrive!

Brrr! A frozen poem in the dead of winter. Spring will be here soon so try not to fall anymore. I'm glad to hear that you've recovered well and that nothing broke!

I can feel the fear and now finding you have no cell phone reception...even more so. Getting to Spring and making some changes would be on top of the list!

I'm glad you're ok Suki, and I hope spring brings with it less isolation.

Gosh Suki, I feel so far removed from my friends lately. I'm so sorry you fell. I wish I could have been there to break the fall or to pour some tea afterwards.

I'm glad you're okay. Falling is a scary thing, I know.

Big hugs~

yes to moving to more companionable clime(s)!! What about having a call daily arrangement with A so he would know to come check if he did not hear from you?

Glad to hear you are well with no broken parts. It is a scare when this happens. In Dec I caught my foot on something in a shop and before I knew it I was on the floor. I banged my knee and was worried but like you in few days I was fine. Our old bones are stronger than we think, perhaps! But yes the real scare of being alone. Take good care.
