Of snails and bird?calls

Mary at Cape Cod Art and Nature recommended this book. I loved it. Very short. Elisabeth Tova Bailey became ill with a debilitating disease she struggled with for twenty years, much of that time bedridden. A friend brought her a violet with a snail aboard and Elisabeth watched the snail, later read many books about snails and then wrote the above meditative and inspiring book.

To hear a snail eating click here.

Below: I have recorded sounds of birds??? or some animal anyway chirruping back and forth to each other down by the pond. Anyone know what animal these sounds come from?

I love the bluish mist in the trees and the color of that shed.

Could they be warblers? I loved the stillness there.

Suki, these are frogs calling. I can't remember which one. I did a frog survey about 12 years ago where I learned the call of frogs. Unfortunately I have forgotten which frog does this call. Such a peaceful sound. No wonder you don't want to leave this area. It is beautiful. HAW. I have read about this book before and thougth I would like to read it. Did you like it?

I think Lisa is right. Frogs.
I love snails and when I lived in a place that would not allow pets when I was 6 I had a snail in a jar as a pet :-). xoxo

Lisa, i briefly thought could they be frogs but then i heard the more usual frog call, reebeek and thought no they were some kind of birds.

so good to know the true answer!

Annie, a snail as a pet is so cute and funny.!

Your pond has given you so much pleasure through all the seasons. I too like the way the tree tops hold a bluish mist.

Oooh Suki, methinks I MUST but that book! I have always loved snails...and to this day, when I see them on the sidewalk - in harm's way, I stop, pick them up and place them somewhere safer....

Love those birds singing....they sound more bird-like than frog-like to me too....

Your Mountain is so gorgeous in Spring/Summer!

Love to you and Bibitty!

i loved that book, as you know--so glad you found it to read. so contemplative...

also, my guess would be a toad but you have some different frogs there than here so it could be a frog, too--just not the green or bullfrogs you might think of first--check out frog and toad calls by googling them--there are some great sites out there.

Of course, frogs! I should have thought of that, but usually you hear them more in the spring.

I came back to read about the book and listen to the snail eating. I'm going to buy this! Thanks for posting it. It just looks so charming.♥

Now I have to listen to your recording .......

Yes I heard both now and it must be that frog. Amazing you just trow your questions on the internet and the answers come. 100 years ago we just had to keep wondering......

Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday!!!

Lovely. We have so many chattery birds back here in the wooded area around WM. It would be sad to live without them.

As you can see, I am way behind in visiting...but this sounds like an interesting book and funny, this year the frogs haven't 'annoyed' me as in the past...healing.
