Remembering Dad on Memorial Day

I love having this photo of Dad at work. He was Chief of Pathology at Bridgeport Hospital for many years. He attended Yale and then Johns Hopkins for his medical training. There he met Mom who did her nursing training at Johns Hopkins. Romantic eh?

In WWII Dad served in the army as a medic and contracted TB. He spent a year in a veteran's hospital in Worcester, Mass. I didn't understand why he had disappeared. Mom took me to see him one day so I could see he wasn't dead. I stood in the parking lot and Dad came to the window and waved. Of course, I couldnt visit in person re: contagion.

Remembering all those who have kept us safe and free. Thank you!

What an honourable man, what a wonderful photo, and here's to all dads, mine too, gone now for 28 years.

What a handsome man your dad was! I can't imagine how hard that must have been having him gone for so long as a little girl. Glad he got better and eventually came home again. lovely story! Yes, we have many to thank! I watched a very moving tribute on TV in DC last night.

Your dad WAS indeed a Hero!
My Father (gone now 18 years) was a WWII Bomber Pilot who fought in Africa and Italy. He was (like your Father) a gentle soul...but had to go to war and never got over the pain of having to kill people. Really....he never did get over it.

After the War, he returned to the States, became an Air Force Pilot, met and married my Mum....and some years later, I came along. He was my BEST teacher about Life.... the frailities, the strengths....
I love him and miss him so.

Here's to all the Heroes! I will raise my glass to toast those who have (and will continue to) defend our land!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

This is a wonderful post. I am honoured that you shared it. I also have a childhood memory of my father waving at me from a hospital window.
