Winter Tin

Mom had quite a collection of tins. Some old, some new. Someone cut a slit in this lid for money collection.

I love the old fashioned winter scene depicted on the tin. So 50's somehow.

Note the man maple sugaring in upper left.

This wooden Santa was a gift from my poet friend Mort. Mort was extremely poor so the very fact that he would buy small gifts for me touched me deeply. I am reminded of him every year when I hang this Santa. He had a beard and mustache something like this one!

Something about Christmas decorations and remembering who they came from, where you got them and why you keep them...is part of the special gifts this time of year...memories

Suki, what a lovely tin and Santa!
Teri is right - part of the joy of the season is remembering where some of one's decorations come from.....

I especially love the man "Maple Sugaring"..... I will always associate that with you!

Stay warm! It is pouring here...last night, we even had thunder and lightning!

Love to you and Bibs,

♥ Robin ♥

I love the tin with the slot for coins .... There is something wonderfully resourceful about that :)

And any gifts with such memories attached from the giver are true gifts indeed ....

It is lovely hanging decorations and thinking of friends. Something quite comforting about bringing the memories of loved ones to the forefront of our minds in the festive season. Kind of feels like we're still including them even if they aren't with us.

And as regards your previous post. I am glad you're here too. As Annie says, anything medica feels pretty huge however minor it might seem to others. Particularly if you are a Type B person :)

Some fine verse here Suki, I shall pop back to read again. xx Jos

I love old tins, too, and have a collection housing various bits and tatters of this and that. The images on the tins you've shown remind me of the folk art of Maude Lewis. Do you know her art? You can see some here:

Isn't amazing how much meaning one can imbue certain objects with, rendering them precious to oneself, whereas they would just be "stuff" to another?

Sweet to be remembering your mom this way. And friend Mort as well.
Happy Christmas Suki.

This reminds me I haven't done my Monday holiday post!

I love old tins too. I had my hard teenage years in Brockton, MA. That tin brought that back! But I do love the nostalgic skating scene from that era.

Mort's santa is charming. I think I'll take a few pics of special ornaments too.

Wonderful, warm, inspiring post Suki.

I love old tins. How wonderful. Thank you for the movie reviews, too. How do you manage to obtain 5-6 films per week? Do you rent, download, have satellite?
