I used to love to open those pods as a kid and make a wish on the downy seedlings as they blew away.

I wish I could remember some of those wishes!!♥

Milkweed! When I see them, I think about a wonderful weekend I spent with my Ex and Bofie a few years ago. We found a gorgeous site for a picnic a few hours North from Manhattan, after, we hiked...and encountered a forest where Milkweed were in abundance.
Some of the pods had opened, revealing their feathery, dreamy insides....some still remained closed. I brought some of the closed ones back with me to remember a perfect day - and do you know, when I was back in SF - they had opened - and I still have them, feathery and white in a small vase on my kitchen window sill!

Gosh Suki, thank you for this post and the lovely memories it brought me.

Many hugs to you and Bibs!

Love,

♥ Robin ♥

I do not believe I have ever seen this beautiful plant in real life. Thanks for introducing me to this beauty!!!!

And the drawing/painting? in black and white on your side bar top is most interesting!

I used to adore milkweed pods when I was a girl. I haven't seen one for ages. So lovely and Pippi-ly symbolic.

I love milkweed! Beautiful first photo. Reminds me of my childhood, growing up surrounded by fields of them.

I have never seen one of these before.. Are they only an Eastern plant? Very pretty.
