My Handbound Sketchbook continues

I'm almost finished filling the pages of this sketchbook, begun quite some time ago.

Let's go fly a kite. I had painted this a nice Hansa yellow, then accidently got dark paint on if from the following page and had to redo it.

Water color. My bete noir. I dont know why I keep trying except it is easy to access and an easy clean up.

Page two on the same theme.

I sketched this on a separate sheet of paper and will glue it onto the last page of the sketchbook. I just have one more page to fill and then maybe the back of this page. But I keep going back and adding touches to some of the previous pages. Some are incomplete and/or in process.

Suki, I truly love this book. It is just a perfect project. It makes me think I need to have this kind of thing to work on from time to time, too.

I know just what you mean about the watercolors. They are what I would call my medium of choice, but they sure are easy to drag out and put away when you need something like that. I never use them the way they are intended to be used, but they work nicely for studies and just as you have used them here, too. I really, really like these bits. They are so expressive.

My favorite is your self-portrait. I so love it so much. You have done a wonderful job capturing spirit in this drawing. You are wonderful with faces (which I find a major challenge).

I will come back to this post...there is much here. Thank you for sharing it.

Your self portrait is marvelous. I love watercolors so I know why you are drawn to them. Just relax and have fun with them. Doesn't it feel good to finish a sketchbook? I always end up with a few pages I ignore. They just sit there sad and empty. I can't seem to do any more. I have accepted this so it is easy for me.

It's always so good to see you creating and see your creations Suki!
So nice that your sketch/ self portrait ended up exactly next to the original.
I always love your art!

Happy creating!

Oh... I what fun whimsical little watercolor elves. Your self portrait is nice, too. I like the looseness of the strokes and the quick subtle shading.

Is that a house on your back??
Symbolic for something here Suki?

I love peeking into your journals. I feel like a voyeur except that you chose to share ;)

Love the self-portrait. I don't think I've seen any figurative work by you.
Wonderful!♥

Looks like a house on your back with a sack of money. Is the house hunting breaking you down thinking of the money it will take to get one? Love the self portrait and it is nice to see you working again.

What a magical "Suki-ish" journal.... I love sketches....the ever-present "H---E"....the thing you seek......and WILL find....

I love your self-portrait... you DO these so well and can capture the essence of YOU.....

Sending you love in the middle of a HOT (88) week in San Francisco!

Love,

This is a wonderful self portrait er I mean sketch book. It is all the same isn't it? I see delight, color whimsy and joy in this collection and I'm so glad you are art making and with a slow touch...letting it all evolve.

You inspire me so much, Suki. It is kind of nice to know someone as accomplished as you are still finds watercolours a challenge. I have a love/hate relationship with them...when the painting works it's great, but more often than not it is not what I intended to show...

Love, love, love that self portrait!

Sometimes those screw-ups are just happy accicents that turn into a new painting. I really like that sketch you did of yourself. I've never tried to do that.
Yes, I like watercolor for all the reasons you listed and it is cheap!

this is so whimsical and reminds me of Le Petite Prince .... especially the house on your back. There's a world of meaning there - and humor too.

Suki, thanks for sharing some of the pages of your wonderful sketchbook with us, from all the comments, I think you have inspired quite a few others to create their own books. These are truly creative pages, not produced for any other reason than to express yourself! Wonderful!!
