life's path

Sometimes in life our path seems straight and clear. Onward we walk one foot before the other towards our imagined goal.

"Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Emerson

Other times our path feels muddled. We are at the crossroads and there are many directions we might take. Left, right, back, forward, north, south, east, west, down deep, up high.

"We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." Joseph Campbell

What a lovely, inspiring post. You really are a poet, Suki.

(oh, that quote by Emerson - one of my favorites - and so represents the depiction of your photos.)
Go eat some soup!

Beautiful snowy pics and lovely thoughts about where we are headed. The important thing is that we keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter what..

good way to start the morning-- choose a path-- like the light at the end of the tunnel or the E. L. Doctorow quote about driving a car at night. you can only see as far as the headlights but you can make the whole trip that way.

dear suki - these are beautiful quotes. reminding us of the unpredictability of life - but more importantly what a gift that is! Someone asked me the other day, "you published a book, is it everything you dreamed of?" I laughed loudly and said, "no." But that doesnt' mean it's a bad thing, yes? I think you would understand that more than most. Here is the website where you can buy my book. I am now centered again and am able to do those things that bring me joy - like reading blogs! So, hopefully I will "see" you more :) roxanne

At present, I feel my path is in the second photo. In your first photo, if I walked in that straight of a line I would tip over!
But seriously, I love the analogy and the phrases are so true.

There was a time when I saw the huge multitude of choices as a curse--how much easier if our paths were dictated, so we knew where to devote our energies.

Now, though, I view it as a tremendous blessing; having options means getting to pick your calling, or even having more than one.

That's a good thing.
