Girlfriends Bound

I made a bookcover for my Girlfriends book shown on the video in an earlier post. For the cover I used purchased handmade paper with ferns and flower leaves. I used canvas I painted with PearlEX paints instead of book linen.

For the bookboard I used mat board. Thread is waxed linen. I had to open up an already packed box to get out my bookbinding tools. When I find some beads I can tie them onto the ends of the hanging strings.

I wish I had made the back edge wider is my main regret but not enough to do it all over again. I attached a button and string closure. You can find a tutorial for this style book at Teesha Moore's website. Click here. It is a very easy bookbinding technique.

Some bookbinding tools. Top Left: an awl. Top right: linen thread. Bottom row: blunt sewing needel and lump of wax to run the thread through

I love it Suki! I have yet to make any type of book. My journal will be my first attempt! I may have to hire you to assemble/cover it :)

So so pretty Suki. I'd love to learn to do bookbinding - so many wonderful ways to use that skill. What a treasure you now have!

Wow, I am so impressed. thanks for the tips...you make it look easy but me thinks not.

Your book is so pretty. Did you add the ferns or were they already part of the paper?

Beautiful, Suki. And the tools are just as lovely. I'm especially drawn to that mellow lump of amber wax!

This book turned out gorgeous! How nice to see one completed. I am so anxious to finally get mine back. I have participated in four book swaps and this will be the first one that I will have actually gotten back. I'll bet you treasure yours. P.S. I missed the video the first time around, so I just watched it. Lovely art!!
