The Wishing Year, Noelle Oxenhandler mentions her friend
Carole Watanabe, an artist who often creates shrines to put her wishes out there into the universe. So, before I went to the Cape I began this shrine. This is the back panel.
I covered foam core, cut to size, with rice papers and then some magazine cutouts. This side shows some self-decorated tissue paper and cut outs from an article on Georgia O'Keefe.
The second side is similar.
Front. Inside picture is of Georgia O'Keefe's studio. I stuck brads or whatever they are called into the edge of the foam core. I hung one of my wired paper gatherings with twigs from the top so it can sway. I am not finished.
Here is Bibbity. The eye on the right of the photo, but her left eye, is the blind one. It is also enlarged a bit from glaucoma. Still, she enjoys going outside to play a bit each day.

Your shrine is so wonderful. I have seen similar things in our local community arts center and I am always intrigued by them. Some people put so much detain into these and they always seem so interesing. Hope yours works.
Bibs is adorable. So, so sorry about her eye. She looks young yet, and really pretty healthy otherwise. If nothing else is wrong, I'm sure she will adjust to her blindness. Give her a hug for me.
how lovely, how perfect for you suki. aaaw poor little kitty, i go every 6 months for tests as there is glaucoma in my family and i am on the borderline, suspicious signs of it in me.

Is the base of it foamcore also?
I especially like the twigs and the wiring. Love that you've left the wire free,,,not all neatened up and tidy. I can visualize it swaying in the breeze, and I bet Georgia would like it too.

Did you see the movie on Georgia O'keeffes life last week on TV? Its playing on Lifetime. It was really interesting. What a life she had with that husband of hers. She lived to be 98 which I didnt realize. Such a body of work she put out. Your post reminded me of it. :)
Poor bibbs. Glaucoma too. But they do adapt.
The idea of a shrine is interesting--and yours is very creative.
What a nice idea. I like it! We have a kitty that is very nearly blind. Doesn't seem to slow him down....
Suki this is incredibly interesting and beautiful. I love the colors...like seeing Georgia O'Keefe's studio, those bones are strange and the wood wow. LOL

The drawing on the front is beautiful.
Kitty is so pretty. She looks like a female verison of Henry, both Tabby's but she has that magnificent front furry white chest that screams pet me.

I really like the shrine, and adore Georgia O'Keefe. I have 3 tattoos and 2 are from O'Keefe art--desert roses and a calla lily.
Bibbity looks good, content and at peace. Each extra day with her is a treasure...

Soulbrush, my bro has glaucoma but I dont think any other family members do.
Babs, yes all the pieces are of foam core covered w/rice paper.
Cris, I didnt see that show about O'Keefe, however have watched several DVD's about her and read several bio's plus own several books of her paintings (in storage unit). Plus have been out there in her territory too.

Leslie, thanks. Bibs was depressed and slowed down at first but now seems back nearly to her old happy self.
thanks Lynn. It has been fun to do. I'd like to make or find a sort of pot to place in the corner and fill with twigs and paint brushes or something.

I think I need to build a shrine, a secret one in the woods or by the river I've been visiting. This is so inspiring!

M. Heart, a shrine in the woods sounds magical. Remember my post about the Cloutie Well? They have these in England/Ireland etc. A magical well where people tie pieces of cloth in the trees and send out their wishes, often health oriented. I love it.

What will you do with the shrine?
The shrine is beautiful and now that it's "In the World" you can sit back and relax a little...! It would be so amazing out in a perfect secret spot in nature.
Britt-Arnhild, I dont know yet what I'll do with the shrine.
Blue Sky, if i put it outside it would disintegrate which would be okay maybe later on.
Suki, I love your shrine. Like Georgia, it seems like you are looking for good bones (in your house) and know what you want. She was an amazingly strong woman with an amazingly strong will. It got her what she wanted and I am sure it will work the same for you!
Bitty looks so peaceful there. I am sure she is contemplating how great it is she has you to help her through.
kim, Georgia was a strong woman who knew her own mind. I just love her. Maybe it is my own bones that need to be strong and good.
