The Old Man in the Mountain

A surprise came in the mail yesterday from Mim. My very own Miss Em ATC card!!! Here is Miss Em wearing the famous red heart necklace gazing at the old man in the mountain, a New Hampshire landmark now gone.

Mim also included an apple card, I do love apples Mim, and Miss Em was enclosed in a tiny envelope with herself on the front! Mim, thanks so much. I think I'll put Miss Em in my car as a good luck token of which I have a # in my car.

For those of you who don't know about the old man in the mountain, it was a rock formation at Franconia Notch in New Hampshire. In 2003 the rocks collapsed so the old man is gone. Pictures here.

I was very sad to hear that The Old Man of the Mountain crumbled and left us a few years back. He was such a well loved landmark.

I can smell the lilacs! Wow!!

Sweet of Mim to share her art this way. You deserve it too. Glad you see it as a good luck token. All her art is so awesome!

Enjoy the day! Hope it is as sunny there as it is here today!

That has to be one of the most touching Ms. Em cards I've ever seen. Wow, wearing the heart necklace, how special is that? I think Mim wears her heart outside too ;)

I had no idea the old man crumbled!! Jeez, I move to Calif and the world falls apart. You'd think my NH relatives would have told me. Maybe they did.

hah, I didn't mean the world fell apart because I moved, by the way. It came out wrong!

I hope Ms. Em is a good talisman for you ;)

Wow...awesome lilac bush...tree! I planted some here years ago and they have never flowered...like I said, stuff that grows at the side of the freeway withers for me...

Enjoy the Craftsman tour...I'd love a house like that, but not maintaining it, so tours sound like something I'd enjoy, too!

kathi, these are my brother's lilacs and he has a dark one, a light one and a white one.

Judith, i know. i think it is ironic that they show the straps they put up there to try to keep him in tact but man's maneuvers didn't work!

Willow, yes and a sort of state symbol for NH and his face is still on the liscence plate.

soulbrush, that's not my house. that's the original farmhouse my Dad bought and then turned over to my brother. Mom and Dad put up a trailor for themselves (to retire in) instead of living in the farmhouse as they originally intended. Nice of them not to kick my brother out when they decided to retire.

lynn we had overcast day all day but pleasant.

Mim, yes, and now i have him and miss em as my mascots in my car! thanks again.

BSD I took a few photos but not really very interesting ones. I forget to do it when touring. it was fun though to see all the art.

thanks lolo. Well, the old man collapsing probably isnt at the top of folks gossip list. i wouldnt have known either but my folks told me back when it happened which seems like just yesterday.

Britt-arnhild, it is. I just love the Miss Em sketches.

marianne, hope you are having fun in nice warm outside weather.

annie, it is wonderful to have blog friends and to know so many kind and lovely people.

cris, that big lilac is beside the door at my brother's house. it is particularly glorious this year i think.

Teri, this lilac bush was planted many many years ago. my understanding is they take a lot of years to grown. the craftsman tour was of crafters studios not a tour of craftsman style homes although that would be fun as i do love them.

katie jane, miss Em is the greatest, isnt she?

artist unplugged,it was so sweet of Mim to think of me.

What a wonderful collection. Ms Em is the best. It is too bad about the Old Man. Nature can be fickle.

I'm with Kathi, I love your lilacs, too. Beautiful color and mood! I just remembered and wrote down a reference to lilacs. We don't have them in Puerto Rico. Love to you, Suki.

Such a beautiful farmhouse. No wonder you have enjoyed your time living there. I once lived in the mountains and we planted a lilac tree at our back door. The scent was wonderful as we passed by and the flowers heavenly!

sukipoet said...

Artist unplugged, i guess nature always has her way though. and what man wishes isnt really taken into consideration.

cynthia, love your new picture. maybe it's too hot for lilacs in PR?

Patti, im not living in the farmhouse. that's my brother's house my dad gave him yrs ago. that house was where my mom and dad were going to retire but when retirement came the bro was already living in there so the folks put up a trailor for themselves which is where i live.

What a sweet thing for Mim to do. She is so thoughtful. To put the heart on Ms Em is just fantastic! And looking at the missing old man. Wonderful.

Mim said...

Suki...you're in a trailor??? with the shots that you've shown us, it seemed like a house and your bro was living in another house.

Someone once said to me - "oh yes, your family is dysfunction - just about as much as mine and everyone else's that we know". Families.....oy

suki, ms. em came to me too--reading a book and looking like her wonderful self. mim is so generous and kind. i think she has a secret fiesty side too...

Miss Em is adorable, and she sure gets around,I see!
That is a super header photo,,,the lilacs here are puny,,,but where I grew up they were like these. Oh,,,,that fragrance blowing in the window,,,such memories!
Very interesting the old man in the mountain.

Teri, yes Mim is a sweetheart.

Mim, yes Mom and Dad put up a trailer. unfortunately as if they'd done a house it would be worth tons more. I just asked the bro if he would sell this place to me, the trailor and 2 acres and he came up with $150000 for a 25 yo two bed one bath trailor with barn, garage and additional room.

sukipoet said...

kj, probably we all have a secret fiesty side, though for some of us it isnt so secret. :)

Babs this is quite an old lilac with many years of growth on it.

Mim said...

Moi? Fiesty?

Suki - I'd like to give bro a poke in the eye.

Mim, probably i dont want to live nearby someone who treats his sister like a stranger.
