OK I'm addicted

I'm not much of a TV watcher, but now that I've found HGTV I am hooked. This station has a lot of home redecorating shows but it also has a first time home buyer show. Young couples search for their first home. They show three homes and show the couple going through the looking and purchase process.

I wonder why it's never a single woman of a certain age we see??

At any rate it is interesting. They also have another site called Front Door which lists homes across the country and also has tips for homebuyers.

The house shown above is the first and only home I ever owned back when I was married. It is about twelve minutes from Mom's house. It cost $13,000 back in the mid-seventies.

Wow, 13,000, wouldn't it be nice if you could still buy a nice house for that? Happy house hunting, Suki, you will find the perfect place when it is time. xoxo

That is a wonderful channel, I love to watch them search for a home and the shows that feature unusual homes. Continued luck on your search.

Such a charming little cottage.
Our first home in lLondon cost eleven thousand pounds....
you could get nothing for that now.

Isn't the internet incrediable? It can help us with just about anything these days. Not to mention friendships across the country and the globe!

Yes, that does sound a bit predjidicial (sp)? but I hope this "woman of age" finds the perfect home in the perfect setting for her needs and desires soon.

I've finally decided on a vibrant, rich teal/turquoise color for the sitting area off the kitchen and I'm itching to start painting!

I didn't notice you were eating dandelion greens when I was here earlier. I used to gather them out in the countryside with my grandmother.

too funny! there are a lot of us out here addicted to HGTV and actually if you keep watching you'll see there are plenty of people of a certain age finding first homes as well....;-)

have fun!

Mary beat me to it but she is right. Keep watching. They have had lots of single women of a certain age buying homes. I love HGTV. and We saw our home on the Internet before ever seeing it in person and buying it. In fact I wanted a sunroom and seeing wicker furniture in one of the photos had me interested and coming to see the house. A 13 hour drive no less.
Am interested to know if you are sad you sold that house or not now after all these years.

13,000 My Jeep Wrangler cost more than that in 2005. How did we ever live without the internet?

Annie, i know it isnt good to compare prices. there are still places where you can get pretty cheap houses but you might not want to live there.

Artist Unplugged, it is an interesting channel.

Elizabeth, the good old days, eh?

lynn, hard to imagine what we did befroe the internet. On that house website it says that people who use the internet first to scan available houses spend 1/3 less time driving around neighborhoods to see houses they wouldnt like.

willow, that sounds like a great color. one thing I love to do is paint walls. I didnt have the dandelion greens up there earlier.

Mary, oh okay. I'd like to see a single woman one for sure. It's inspiring really.

Cris, the story around my treatment of that house is very sad. Actually, I got divorced. The house was half his and half mine. I wanted to move to Cape cod so I sold my half to the ex. He couldnt live in it though due to his job being elsewhere and i think he just let it go into foreclosure. I just got $2000 for my releasing of the house so I dont really feel I sold it exactly. However that said, I am sure i would have sold it at some point as i wanst crazy about the boondocks.

chewy, i have to admit i love the internet, especially living up here in the boonies.

wow - 13000 - that's amazing. I am totally hooked on HGTV!!! Sometimes they do have "alternative" couples or single people on the show - but mostly it's fairly conservative...hey - how about ir YOU go on the show.

Tee hee! I have to say it is really fabulous to find informative TV shows about things you are currently involved with in your life. My very literary daughter loves to zone out with Food Network! Of course, she has no TV to watch it...LOL I think you can probably write them and offer up to be one of these people looking for a home. What do you think? Would you be up for that? Check out the web site, anyway.

This is a cute little house. I guess I did not realize you were that close to your first owned home. Do you drive by it often?

Keep us informed!

It s a cute house with potential...... 13.000 wow.
The first house I owned I sold for 45.000 guilders, you can´t imagine that anymore now....
Maybe you are addicted because you are on the lookout for a house, but I must admit I like these programs as well.......and I certainly don´t want to move

Take care!

what a sweet little house, i can see you there. yes, why don't you go on the show? i think that this whole house searching experience is being sent to you for a very definite purpose, one you don't know about yet...but all will be revealed in time, i feel certain!

That's a nice house for only 13K. Sadly, that won't even buy you much of a car these days. This house would be so cute with a new coat of paint and some gardening.

I used to watch a lot of HGTV, mostly hoping for the GARDEN part of the title, but they mostly show HOMEs. I kinda got tired of it, but it is a nice channel.

My daughter and I like to watch that channel when we're together.
I love looking at houses,,,but I know you may get tired of it, so the internet IS quite a help.
The house in the photo,,,like Kate said, it could be cute. Bet it feels funny if you drive by it often. I love the street name.

Yes, if you are in the market for a house it is a great show. They always make it look so darned easy too. They come up with the perfect house in no time. I hope you do too.

Mim, it's funny you say how about me going on the show. I had the same idea and looked on the website to see if there was a link--you too can be on HGTV or something but I havent found one. I think the Cape Cod search could be a good show. Shots of the ocean etc.

Kim, I'll keep searching the website to see if I can figure out how to contact them. Yes, I'd be up for it except I dont know how filmworthy I am now at 63. Also, they give you gifts for your house at the end. That seems fun.

Marianne, I think I am mainly addicted because I'm looking for a house. I dont usually watch much tv.

soulbrush, that's an interesting take. maybe the purpose is not just to own a house. in part i think it might be to make me be my own parent in a way. to make me take care of myself. but maybe something else is there too. true love???

katie jane, PBS did have a gardening show at one time that was very good. I know each PBS station buys into different programs so maybe you dont have it there.

Babs, actually I love seeing houses too. I dont drive by that house on Summer Street very often as it's not in a direction I go to other things. Although I have to go by there on Sunday. When i lived in the house I saw a photo of how it looked when first built at the turn of the last century. The porch wrapped around two sides.

sukipoet said...

Lisa, well some couples have spoken of looking at over 100 houses, so for the purpose of the show I guess they condense it down to three. and it does look pretty easy which maybe it sometimes is and sometimes not. Last week the couple ended up NOT choosing any of the houses and decided to keep looking.

Suki, you have an award over on my blog :-).

It looks like a nice house, I hope you'll find something which just suits you perfectly!
Good luck with the search

12 mins from yr mom...I would love this home. I am now 7 hours by plane, from my mother.
I enjoy those types of programs too. I love the one where they get someone to leave & then renovate their homes but I always wonder...what if that person doesn't like it!!!
18 years of a life together...& we have still yet, to own any property! As we keep moving, we only stay in rental homes. Empty ones...then we fill it up with our 480 boxes of belongings!
Congratulations on the award from Annie!

I used to be addicted to that channel when I was pregnant the first time and didn't have a job. Maybe it went along with my nesting instinct, but I just could not tear myself away...

sukipoet said...

xue, welcome. well, Mom died at the end of last year and i am living in her house at the moment. thats why i need to find a new place to live. you are a brave soul to pack up and move so often. thats the main reason i want to own. so i dont have to pack up every few years.

Natalya, i guess there are certain times in ones life when certain shows hold meaning. at last i saw a single woman being depicted buying a house.

I like seeing where you used to live. I love the house. I'd like to see it plunked down in a field away from streets and not so close to neighbors. It reminds me a bit of a smaller N.E.farmhouse.

I love HGTV too. I used to watch the decorating shows all the time.

Good luck in your search Suki. Your house will find you ;)
