washing my hands

hello everyone. ok this is a test video made with my Nikon Coolpix camera. One minute of me washing dishes. just wanted to see if it worked. Pretty boring subject matter of course.

Yes, it worked. Yes, boring subject matter. Yes, I watched it all despite you announcing it was boring. Ha... I enjoyed hearing your voice. I can't wait to see something you find interesting.

yahoo it worked perfectly, it was like you were washing those (boring) dishes right here in the room...so nice to hear your voice. like your fridge magnets and your wind chime hanging in the background (oh yes this baby will see everything, so hide the dirty underwear)...(if there is any)... and have fun.

Congratulations....there you were err I mean your hands and your dishes and your voice...great job!

How funny. The camera worked. I did not hear your voice so now have to go back and watch this "boring?" video again??? OY.
I am laughing out loud!!!
I hope this means you will be giving toutorials about your art soon, less boring, more interesting to see artist at work.
don't forget to turn off the water...we are having a drough in CA so the water running bothered me big time. LOL I did like that off red dish with the overall print. ;-)

Yes it did work. how fun actually to hear your voice. It wasnt what I thought your voice would sound like. You dont seem to have an eastern accent. :) Its a nice voice too.
So how did you do this exactly? how fun it would be for us to do.

sukipoet said...

Thanks lisa. You know, I titled it wrong. I am washing the dishes, not my hands. LOL

Funny soulbrush that you saw all those things. I shall be careful on the next one.

BSD I am so proud of myself for doing this mechanical thing.!!

Lynn, I was going to say, in the video, you are probably wondering why I am wasting water by rinsing/washing the dishes this way. But it cut off before I said it. I will try to remember to use the dishpan. The dish you mentioned was from my Mom's set she used everyday which set I am giving to my brother.

sukipoet said...

Cris, we Easterners have no accent. It is the rest of the country that does. :)

There is a switch on my camera which, if I move it to the video icon, then takes a video instead of a single picture when I press the button. I dont know how your camera might do it, but it should be in your instruction book that came with the camera. After taking the video, I uploaded it to my picture program. Then I went to Youtube, I am registerd at youtube which you would have to do inorder to upload, and uploaded my video into their website. then I clicked upload to my blog and it happened!!

it was nice to finally put a voice with your image. No doubt about it, it was boring :-), now do one working on a piece of art :-).

YOU ARE SO SMART!

I don't think I would ever be able to do that. I have to say, I loved hearing your voice so much, and it is not how I imagined your voice to sound. Isn't it funny how we do that?

Suki, you test any time at all! I love it!

kathi said...

How very smart you are! I enjoyed hearing your voice too. Hope you do more with your new found toy!

Britt-Arnhild said...

LOL. Cute. You made it :-)

sukipoet said...

Annie, I think the voice feature is quite fun. I'd love to hear everyone's voices.!

Kim thanks. I am thinking myself quite the genius now too. You must remember that I am generally very unmechanical but every once in awhile I come through.

Kathi, it does feel like a new toy. !!

sukipoet said...

Britt-arnhild, glad you had a laugh. I think it is hysterical myself. Oh boy, my enthusiasm is fired.

kj said...

both picture and voice were so clear. but don't quit your day job, suki...

By George, I think you've got it!
Nice to hear your voice. Now I can put the whole you together.

m. heart said...

i'm so glad you figured this out suki, and as others have commented it's really nice to hear your voice! this inspires me to maybe get out from behind the camera when i'm doing a little video...

Mim said...

You have lovely hands and wrists and a wonderful accent

patti said...

I found it great to hear your voice too Suki. You are doing well to have worked out the video thing.

I was also wanting to reach over and turn the tap off! We are on water restrictions here in Aust. and I always feel guilty if I let the tap run.

Teri C said...

oh fun! That is the kind of camera I have also!! And I rarely use the video part. lol

Kim said...

I am with you, Suki! I really can't make these machines dance very well at all.

I think you are always brilliant!

sukipoet said...

kj, well this was my first try. onward. soon I will be filming independant movies. :) You know i always did want to make a movie to tell you the truth.

thanks Katie Jane.

m.heart, yes it would be fun to see you in "person." ! I loved your car wash video though. Mystical.

sukipoet said...

Mim, thanks. Hands are okay to show but the face is scary. LOL

Patti, generally I am conservative about water and in the past have been known to use my dishpan water to water the flowers.

teriC, well we all want you to try out that video feature and show us some of your lovely desert landscape!

sukipoet said...

Kim, thanks for yr vote of brilliance. Of course!!!!!

Cestandrea said...

Soooooooo funny, Suki, I'm still laughing here, and all this water running, now I have to go to the toilet, LOL!
Great video
love,
have a wonderful day
Andrea
PS love your hands at work

This was fun, Suki! I love how it ended with "you might say, why is she rinsing"! Nice to hear your voice.

Artist Unplugged said...

Nice! I have posted video taken with my cell phone and I know the feeling. I was so pleased with myself for figuring out how to do it! Your journal pages were amazing by the way.

I loved this video! Your voice, the art of the domestic, and the play of water and hands in a dance that happens in each kitchen around the world but differently in each place. Pretty dishes. Lovely slice of life. I am inspired to "sound off on my blog" so people can know me a bit deeper. I love coming to see what's up here in Suki's world -- I'm always delighted. ; D

p.s.
Your voice is lighter and breezier than your photos and prose would suggest. I'm so glad to have heard the tinkles of fun in the splashing water.

studio lolo said...

You sound a lot like my sister! I think you're built the same too.
It must be pretty chilly in your house if you need a jacket on to wash dishes :P
I run the water when I rinse dishes too. Who wants to dunk clean dishes in murky water? I turn it off in between.
Great job on the video.
:)

kj said...

that's it, suki! time to make movies! i'm serious!

sukipoet said...

Andrea, so glad I got you laughing. I guess it is pretty funny. as was the result of your watching and hearing the running water.

thanks Willow. Of course I didnt end it there on purpose, the video just cut off. I hadnt timed it so wasnt sure when it would stop recording.

sukipoet said...

thanks Artist Unplugged.

Debbie, thanks for seeing and articulating so much in and about my little video. It's true that the domestic is political, or as we said in the sixties, the personal is political. (universal)

sukipoet said...

laurel, I am ALWAYS cold. From October to May I wear long johns, my layer of turtle necks and jeans, then a sweater or warm covering over that.

sukipoet said...

LOL KJ...

CHEWY said...

suki,
Learning something new is rewarding... especially when we're self-successful with computer stuff. Great job. Actually, washing dishes is brilliant. Most people might just sit down in front of the camera. We get a view in to your house too.

kikipotamus said...

Oh, it was nice to hear your voice, now I want to watch your face while you talk. Pleeeeeeaaaase? :) PS I run the water to wash rather than fill up the sink if I just have a few items. But I read today that Canadians are huge water users, 2nd only to Americans. Eep! So I am starting a new effort to use even less.

sukipoet said...

Chewy, so many home movies from early childhood where we just sat there and grinned perhaps led me to do an "action" video. It is fun to get a glimpse into someone's life even if the event is only washing dishes.

sukipoet said...

Kelly, there is a brief glimpse of my face at the video beginning. I am not yet brave enough to show myself this way, so old and wrinkled. Conserving water is a good idea. What you say about a few dishes is true. When Mom was here I used the dishwasher several times a week and surely that uses a lot of water and electricity. With just one person, myself, I dont have a lot of dishes. On the other hand making this video reminded me to use the dishpan. Although whether that saves any water I am not sure.

marianne said...

Dishwashing is certainly boring, but I loved to watch this. it was fun hearing your voice and seeing your hands move......
Such fragile hands which can make such powerful art!

Dianne said...

Wow Suki, you are so clever to have made this video, saved it, put it onto UTube and then on your blog! Now please make one talking about your journals, that would be lovely to see and hear.

sukipoet said...

thanks Marianne. a slice of life.

Dianne, I think it would be harder to film myself making collages or whatever. although I suppose i could rehearse it first. i can only do one minute videos on this camera. reason to buy a better camera perhaps

The Crow said...

Wonderful to here your voice...makes you more real, odd as that might sound.

Looking forward to more of your video work.

The Crow said...

...ummm...that should be hear your voice, not'here'...duh

sukipoet said...

thanks The Crow. Blogging is pretty one dimensional view of a person although I guess we also get to see pictures of faces on some blogs. Voice does add another dimension to start to round out the person.
