legacy

When my ex-husband died last month, I asked my son and his half-sister if I might have a piece of his artwork. He was a sculptor, mainly in welded steel, but he also made sculpture from wood.

I chose this relief carved out of scrap wood. I like the image of the woman with the bow and arrow.

The trees in the background. Most of his work now existing is figurative and mostly of women. However in the past he made a lot of abstract steel works, some very large. It is a fine legacy. I think most of this will remain with my son. No one else seems interested.

Wonderful piece, to have and touch and bring good memories..maybe even help make you as strong a woman with your own bow...I like that image of you

A very fine legacy and symbol of strength. The sculpture does remind me of you too and is reminiscent of you as you were in your photo from the seventies, that was (is?) in your side bar.

I like it too Suki, nice that they gave it to you. Something to remember him by...

What a moving piece, and what a gift, to have made that from scrap wood. Something you will treasure along with all sorts of memories.

This is so very lovely, Suki. I know you will treasure this forever, and every time you run your hands over it, memories will flood your mind. It's a very special work of art.

How IS your son doing. Is he an Artist too?

I'd also loved to have seen the metal sculptures.Does your son have any photos of those?

That's a wonderful piece you chose,and very fitting,I think.

And you will.

This is a wonderful piece - perhaps your son should coordinate an exhibit of his dad's work - it looks like he was a powerful sculptor.

you doin' OK???

Mary, thanks. I love wood carvings esp.

Teri and the cats, I agree. I see this woman as a strong woman, and image to hold in mind for myself. Just before we got divorced, the ex had made me a steel Dianna with bow. But he took it away when we got into divorce proceedings. I always loved it. No idea where it ended up.

Patti, interesting you should see me in this. I too felt it was of me.!! And that picture in the sidebar was from the time I was married.

Lynn, one of the strongest connections between ex and I was art.

Anne, yes. I also have another relief carving he did for my parents. Perhpas I will show that one later.

Soulbrush, thanks for asking. My son is not particularly artistic though he plays the guitar. He seems to be doing ok, though says he is lonely esp as he doesnt drive and can't get out and away.

Katie Jane, I hope to find a way to attatch a wire or cord so I can hang it.

Cris, see answer to Soulbrush for info on my son. Not artistic but plays guitar.

Lisa, I have always loved my ex's sculptures. And frankly would be happy to have even more.

BSD, I could tell the amaryliss would bloom when I was gone on my vacation. Luckily the blooms were still blooming on my return. It is gorgeous, a kind of short amarylis.

thanks M. Heart.

kj, hand carved pieces are wonderful. My grandfather too made things out of wood, though more in the line of furniture.

Babs, I agree that this is a strong, empowering pieces, esp for me. Son has no photos but I will try to take some next time I am over there. The artworks are impressive.

Mim, thats a great idea. It would probably end up me coordinating the show but that would be okay. I am feeling dizzy and untethered and am addicted to realtor.com which is basically an illness and should have a group for it I think. I keep looking up homes/prices in endless variations of areas. Not to mention going over the same listings again and again as if they would have changed. I must stop somehow. thanks for asking.

Stunning piece of art Suki. I'm glad it will go home with you. It seems fitting.

My husband just took off for the cape to get closure on his dad's passing. I wish I could have gone with him. I could use a dose of New England ;)

Soulbrush, have been away from the computer today. So just reading abt the award. Thank you.

Annie, thanks. Son seems to be doing well considering. Thanks.

human being, thanks for your comments. good to hear from you!

Laurel, it is good your husband is returning to see, whomever and to say goodbye to his dad. Such a long distance. Will you stay where you are now?

sukipoet said...

Willow, I always thought he was very talented too. I hope he knew that.

Britt-arnhild, yes a good memento. I was married to him for 10 years and part of those years we lived in a house not far from where I am now. We used to drive up and down the back roads a lot. Once we got stuck in the mud and as it is now mud season that memory comes strong.

Chewy, well you see I could lift this piece. Many of them ar e way too heavy for me.

I like this piece! The woman looks a bit exhausted and melancholic. A beautiful work. I'm happy to hear that you are the owner now. And it is a good work of art to remember your late ex-husband...

Well you picked a lovely one to remember the father of your son!
Take care!

So powerfully reflective! What an evocative carved artistic work, Suki. <3

Suki, this is beautiful. I am glad you have the piece from him.

Sad only your son has an interest in his father's work. Maybe it will become his passion to spread the word about his father.

Be Well!
