four handbound books

Completed at last. All the cover papers were once white papers that I decorated with acrylic paint and or paste and acrylic paint. This one is rice paper.

Rice paper cover. These books are a little longer than my previous side bound style and I like it better as it opens easier.

My favorite cover. The design was made with the paste paper method. However, the charcoal paper I used is too thick for my liking.

Another paste paper cover.

Suki,

These are absolutely and incredibly beautiful. I love them all a lot. But I think maybe my favorite one is the second one down. It it all about the colors, I suppose...but I really adore all of them. This is very much your medium and you have said you are quite drawn to it, as well!

Really, truly beautiful work, Suki!

They are all pretty. I would be hard pressed to pick one but I do like the first two really well. What will these be used for?

Thanks Kim. I am drawn to this, however i am not as precise as real bookbinders are. Mine are a bit wabi-sabi. Still, it is fun.

Thanks Annie. The blue looks a bit like little waves I think. Maybe that's the appeal.

Cris, thanks. I don't know what these will be used for. Maybe, on my part, either to sell or for gifts. Then the person who gets them can chose what to put inside.

I aboslutely think people should start thinking Christmas/Chaukah/etc gift giving times and buy your books. They are delightful. They'd make lovely journals. How many pages inside?

thanks Lynn. these four have 30 pages or 60 pages both sides.

They are lovely. Have you made them all from scratch? I bought one similar book made of rice paper in Copenhagen on Saturday. It was in a Fair TRade shop and the book was made in Bangladesh.

I hope to find alot of paper when in India.

Such a feast for the eyes. Your hands make such lovely items that flow from heart-felt inspiration.

Always a delight to wander amongst the paint, poems, and ponderings. : )

Suki, I really loved being able to enlarge & get the 'feel' of these covers!
They are all beautiful, each unique. I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite, but I really do love the color combinations of the border with the blue on the one that you like best.
All have gorgeous color comps.

Thank you Marianne.

Britt-arnhild, yes India is known for some lovely papers. I didnt make the paper for the cover and insides. I used purchased paper. However, the cover paper was originally white, and i decorated it. The book is handmade in that sense and also in the sense that I sewed it together myself.

Mim, thank you. Inside is 25% cotton Strathmore paper. One has white paper the others ivory.

Thank you Debbie.

Thanks Babs. Most often I used purchased handmade decorative papers for bookbinding when I bind a lot of books for a fair or something. Decorating the paper and/or making paper myself for these little books takes a lot of time therefore I only do it when I don't really care if I lose money in the sale of the book. To bind a book like this takes one hour. If you add in making paper and/or decorating paper it takes it over an hour. I usu. charge about 8-10 for this style book or sometimes 12 depending on where I am selling them. Why I am saying all this stuff I dont know but anywya....

Thanks Soulbrush. I do get pleasure out of making little blank books.
