Bounty

I stopped at a local farmstand for a few things. I wanted lots of everything, but I only buy enough for a week as lots of these things spoil.
Well, not the winter squash of course. Those long yellow squashes with the green stripes are delicious. I never ate one until last year and I am hooked.

Not sure what these crook necked guys are.

Suki, what a wonderful stand. NE is so full of these...we are that privileged down here. The photos are wonderful...and thanks for the heads up on the green stripy squashes.

And I am wondering...I honestly don't know and am guessing here...are those long-necked, green things among the pumpkins, gourds?

I am on the lookout for some small pumpkins because in the current issue of Yoga Journal, there is a recipe which sounds yummy using pumpkin and chili cheese (Cabot). They will be ready down here in a month or so.

Thanks Suki...and Peace

What wonderful photos of the veggies. Those long neck squash are just waiting to be dried and painted as animals. That is what I see anyway.
It all looks delicious and nice that you can glean from there on a weekly basis. Enjoy! There is nothing more tasty than home grown veggies. I have some tomatoes and a huge cumcumber from my cousin Judy's garden I got last weekend.
Nummy!

now that's a farm stand! i grew delicata squash (the yellow and green striped) in my garden last year - they are easy to grow and produce lots of sweet, yummy squash.

i think those long-necked gourds are called "swan gourds." i've never grown them, but have seen them at the local farmer's market...or maybe they are bottle-neck gourds? hmm...

Oh I love that sign. I love those green gords.. they kind of remind me of swans in a way. lol
Oh how funny. I put down my comment before reading others and it fun to see what others see and if we see the same thing.
I love these photos. wonderful stand.

So delightful! What a bounty and I love all of it. Yes, those green long-necked things are gourds. Leave them in a cool dry place for the winter and you can make small birdhouses in the spring.

Andrea, the colors here at the farm stand are so marvelous. I must return for a gourd, now I know that's what that is, and pumpkins and more winter squash.

Kim, I guess other readers have answered your question and mine. Those green long neckers are gourds. Katie Jane says you can dry them and make bird feeders out of them. What fun. The Yoga Journal recipe sounds good. Let us know how it comes out.

Lynn, it is a blessing to have these roadside places and i only just discovered this one which is one of the nicesest. I just love the carrots. But soon this will be all gone, except for the pumpkins and winter squash and then they too will no longer be available fresh.

M. Heart thanks for naming the squash, and the gourds. You are probably right, swan necked. I must go back and buy one.

Cris I love that sign too. My garden still has flowers and tomatoes as we missed the early frost here so far. I hope the last few tomatoes ripen soon. They are so good.

Marianne, thanks for stopping by. there does seem to be a lot of everything right now. We are lucky to have so much good foods.

Katie Jane thanks for the tip on the green things---gourds. And for the usage of them too. I may try that.

Annie, thanks for stopping by.

How charming.

I am planning a simple vegetable soup for dinner tonight, but will have to buy my vegetables at the grocery store.

I love the abundance of the harvest season. Your pictures capture the splendor and beauty of nature's "fashion show." I, too, have to control myself and only buy what I can use (and I have six or more eating each meal). So many splendid feasts dance before my eyes as I stroll pasts the abundance spilling from basket and wagon. I LOVE FALL! : )

Britt-Arnhild, soon I too will be back to grocery store veggies.

Debbie, it is miraculous isn't it. The beauty of food grown locally by hands we know.

man oh man the colours, how can anyone tell me they don't like fresh vegetables????

Fresh veggies of summer and fall make meal prep so much more wondeful.
