Last wax process

In sculpture there is a lost wax process. ;) I have not been able to do any new work recently but am attempting to finish some things left unfinished. This is the last wax collage which I melted down the other day and removed most of the collage items from. Now it almost seems too minimal. I'm thinking I'd like some French words written in the white space above the rose.
Also worked more on the leaf, added gold leaf (faux). How do people get those smooooth wax surfaces? This one is bumpy but oh well, I'm done with it. Although looking at this photo makes me think a dark edge might be nice.

You may note I have deleted the post "Dissent in Paradise." It was a wonderful post. The responses I received were all so beautiful and thought provoking and supportive. However, I was concerned that my brother, who is a computer buff, might come upon this post and be very hurt so I removed it. I thank you all for your support and sharing around this issue. I may return to this issue in the future, an update kinda thing. Be well, Suki

Love the red wax collage. It is perfect as is. Probably good you did remove the post you talk of. Maybe in time he will rethink things. I hope so.

I think it would have been good for him to read it, but he is your brother Suki and you have to do what you feel best doing. Love both the wax pieces, love the red!

Hi Suki, These are so exciting. I think it is great how you can change this by just melting the wax. I have a question, though...how warm can this wax get? I am guessing it would not do well if they had to be shipped or if they were in a warm location. I have never really worked all that much with wax except to warm beeswax with my hands to sculpt little things for my children when they were little.

I also love the red one and wonder if you could bring some of the green just to the edges, if you want something darker? I like the other one, too and the idea of adding some French text would be lots of fun.

I completely understand what you mean about your brother. While I agree with Annie about it being good for him to understand how he is perceived, my guess is you are being protective of your mother. Sometimes we make choices about family in order to make the lives of others more peaceful. We often have to make conscious choices about when and where we allow things to unfold.

Are you looking forward to that massage?

Hi Suki,
Good you deleted the post it has served it's purpose....
I scrolled down your posts to see how the leave looked before. It certainly doesn't look tame anymore.
So funny that sometimes I think a piece of your art is good the way it is and it seems to be unfinished....... just like live always undergoing change. :)
The leave fits in with the other work now.
When do you decide it is finished?

Suki, you are such a kind and considerate person. But I think you need to express your feelings to your family more. Maybe not as strongly as you did in your post, but let them know you've been hurt by their actions.

Love the wax collage. Sometimes we need to "take care of old business" before we can move on to the new.

Hi Suki,,,
As you know, I have no knowledge of wax at all, but I'm really liking these collages you show us. I'd say they look great to me,,,but you will know when they're finished. Often, I have finished mine to the point of 'no good'!
I'm thinking you can re-work these wax babies almost indefinitly, am I right in that?

Love all your art money,,it looks so interesting,,,,each one!

I wish my scotch/irish blood would allow me to tan,,,I just burn. Had to be soooooo careful in my beach days. I always think that a tan looks so (maybe deceivingly) healthy.
Bet your haircut is cute, what with your curls!

I didn't see the post you referred to, (I've been away) but it seems that maybe the saying "Choose your battles well,so as not to lose the war" might apply. If not, just ignore me!

This red and gold piece with the leaf looks rich and elegant to me, just as it is.

the top one seems to cry out for a bit more. I know you will decide if they need more or less and they will be beautiful.

I know it's none of my business...however, since others are putting in their 2 cents worth I'll just say ditto to Katie Jane's words about speaking up for yourself. But only you know what is best for you! Good luck with this.

Cris, thanks. I just wish I'd saved the post in my word processor though cause there were some great stories and words of advice there.

Annie, I've had some fear in me since my brother got so angry. That sets my mind off. I start thinking he'd sue me or something. Thanks re: the wax pieces.

Kim, I dont know the answer to your question. I had some of the first batch of wax collages I made in my storage unit for about ten months and they were fine. I think they would ship fine unless maybe it was over 100 degrees for a long time. Maybe wax is like glass, which is never solid but moves through time? I don't know.

Since my brother's outburst I do feel a need to protect mom, at least in the sense of say me not moving away and leaving her to his hands. He is executor and also power of attorney and at times has by the way mentioned "if she does that i'll have her declared incompetant." also he is a part time policeman. So he has a lot of power. Of course with me here as witness I can give a long list of things she does that are quite competant. And I'm probably overreacting to his right wing sensibilities.

The massage is this afternoon. I have not been sleeping well and almost thought to cancel it but that's probably some fear manifesting. So, I'll be off. Thanks for asking, Suki

Marianne, I dont know when to decide if something is finished. Maybe I just dont want to mess with it anymore so I call it finished. I often overdo things too ie: mess with them far too long when they would have been fine left alone. I think with the Paris one i just wanted to take something apart and put it together for the therapy of it.

Katie Jane, I agree that i need to express my feelings more to my family. I think i did to Mom, but still feel I want to say something to my brother about his outburst.

Babs, actually all my curls are cut off now and my hair is very very short. I like it this way for winter. Yes, you can remelt the wax with a heat gun and redo everything. the post was about me asking to have some revisions in Mom's will, mom agreeing, Mom telling my brother and my brother the next day speaking very angrily and threateningly to mom, strongly advising her not to change the will. And she decided she'd rather not have my bro angry so sheis not changing it.

sukipoet said...

Thanks Lynn. I know i must have the courage to speak up for me, as who else will. I am kind of a passive person so it is good for me to speak up, which actually I did originally in asking mom for some revisions to the will. It didnt matter the outcome as much as me speaking up.

that gold leaf is the best. thanks for your words on my 'decision' post, need those ooooommmms very much.
i agree with you deleting something that you know will only hurt someone, and then in fact hurt you and your mom too.
my 'silver edge'wish goes out to you today and every day.

Suki, Hi, I just love the red wax collage, it is gorgeous and looks very precious. I am back in Paris and try to adapt to the metroing etc again and love to come back to my beloved friends' blogs:). I know that times have been and are sad around you and I hope that your art and connection with other artists gives you the joy and love we need in such times

Suki, These two encaustics are quite beautiful. The second piece is special with the dark rectangle shapes and I think you could go either way with a dark edge. The beauty of encaustic is the organic quality along with the sweet scent. Your layers have a transcendent glow to me and has that connection of ancient artisans.

thank you soulbrush. And a silver edged wish to you too.

Hi andrea. glad to hear from you again. I missed you! i do get a lot of solace and support from my friends in blogland. I'm so lucky to have so many insightful and kind friends. Blessings, suki

thanks Mary Ann. the leaf encaustic did end up having a number of layers as I reworked it a lot. I have these pieces in my inside studio and can smell the wax every day. thanks for your comments, Suki

i understand you for deleting that post... it's not suppressing your emotions as you expressed them beautifully... it's concern and mindfulness... he may not be ready now to face the truth...
