More Good News

The photos posted backwards. Oh well. I actually couldn't post the photos from the blogger post window. I posted them from the "Blog This" button on the Picasa site. This room will be my new studio! It is now the den/tvroom/with couch. We will replace these furnishings with my worktables and paint supplies.

The room is about 10 by 15. The heat source is the gas fireplace. It has two windows and is not damp.

How did this evolve??? I decided to move my expensive purchased handmade paper out of my damp and at times wet studio to under my bed. Hard to get at but at least it is dry under there. I felt so frustrated, so I had asked myself the question, well what is it in my power to do about these papers getting ruined? I couldn't easily change the studio itself. So, voila, move the papers.

I also cleaned out my closet half of which was filled with some of Mom's stuff. Then I had room for these boxes of handmade cards, artworks and the paper and envelopes to make cards out of. I will be lucky if the envelope flaps haven't stuck together.Posted by Picasa
As I was doing all this Mom was watching. I told her that this winter I would like to set up a worktable in the living room or den where I could make books and cards. Mom said I could do so in the den. I said it'll be messy when I'm working on a project and I don't put all my stuff away every night, not till the project is finished. She thought that was OK. Surprise, as she is a total neatnick and hates piles of stuff around.
About twenty minutes later, Mom says she had an idea. She will build on another room for me to use as a studio off the living room. It won't have heat, she says. But we can keep the door open to the living room and heat will come in. BUILD A ROOM?~!~~ Well, okay if she wants too. After all it will increase the property value certainly-- all to the benefioft my brother of course in the end.
Twenty minutes later Mom has another idea. She doesn't want to spend the money on a new room. We can move the couch and TV into the living room and I can use the den as my studio. Isn't that wild.
The truth is, ever since I first moved in I've had my eye on that den. I knew it would be a perfect studio, warm and dry and with windows. But I have a feeling if I had suggested that I take it over for myself Mom would have rejected the idea. Now, it is her idea. See how wonderfully it evovled. I've lived here 9 months and she's gotten used to me. And, unless she changes her mind which she has been known to do, my image of a studio will be fulfilled. Hurrah.
Pardon the spacing but this happened because I transferred the photos using the "Blog This" button I think.

Suki,

This is amazing! I know just what you mean about this needing to be your mother's idea. I bet she was/is thinking about how nice it will be knowing you are just in the next room, AND how lovely it will be for you to be so happy doing what you love in a room which works well for you.

I think this is so very cool. And now I am eager to see how it all turns out...with lovely light and a warm, dry place to work! Ah, it does sound lovely, doesn't it?

Congratulations, Sweet Suki! You very much deserve this!

this looks like a great space... there's something to be said for the space that we try to create in... has to be comfortable... has to be OURS... I hope that you find solace and inspiration in this new studio!

Patti, I do think it will be a more comfortable room to work in. Now, to roll up the sleeves and get to moving furniture.

Thanks Kim. It was nice of Mom to give up a room for me. Course, were i not here she might have to be in some kind of assisted living situation and thus have to "give up" the whole house here. So in some ways it seems equitable. She still has the living room, her bedroom. I'll have my bedroom and the den. The kitchen of course shared. The porch is for the cats. Everyone is happy, Ihope.

Kim I have to admit I "copied" Chewy's idea of the wet lilly photo.

Hopper, yes it is nice to have a space that is comfortable. I have never been a freezing garret sort of person.

Oh how exciting for you Suki. You know there is always another answer to things if we just open ourselves to it. Your Mom must be so happy you are there that she wants to keep you there. You are right she could be in a nursing home right now. You gave up what you loved to come take care of her so you are being rewarded for being who you are. Many happy creations in that room.
I need to figure out how to do that heading picture everyone is putting on. Looks so great. I loved this one but really loved the Lilacs. Took my breath away every time I saw it.

Thanks Babs. I'm excited. I will still use the outside studio for such things as wax collage but this will be great, plus I can bring up my books and put them out on the lovely bookshelves.

Cris, All I have to do is get the CABLE MEN ugh to come and put in a new cable line for the TV in the living room. They come on the 10th.

andrea, yes, I think at least this will make me feel I'm not engaging in a futile effort to make things just for them to get ruined. thanks for everyone's good wishes.

I still love the photo...her lily was red...and you can never really copy! :)

The cool thing is that you and your mother are getting into a good place with your living arrangement. She knows how good it is you were willing to be there with her!

Hurrah!
Suki, you made it!
your thought to have the den became reality...
there is a Persian saying that goes:
to want is to be able...

i.e., just when you want something (or want to do something), it means you are able to have it or to do it...

now you did it...
and you did something else...
just 5 minutes ago we had a very short but lovely rain....
can you believe it? after more than 3 months.... and just the Crow knows that it was sent by Suki...
so happy for your new dry studio...
and a wet Tehran...
;)
lots of love and kisses

Oh Suki, Good luck on the cable men. Mine come back tomorrow AGAIN. I hope this time it gets done. My stess level is 22 right now.

Thanks Annie. I showed mom these lilies and she thinks she's never seen them before. Interesting to have a mind like that, everything is always new. Even when old.

Melissa and Emmitt: thanks. It will be a number of weeks before all things get moved around. but I'll show photos when it is accomplished.

Kim, all these things with Mom are a miracle. If you only knew how we were "at" each other for years and years going back to when I was very small. She seemed to never approve of anything i did or said. How did she get mellow? I find it so interesting and healing.

human being, I'm so excited about the rain. Hurrah. I hope more comes your way. It thundered, the rain on the tin porch roof last night but today was just gorgeous with only one brief rain.

Cris, good luck to YOU with your cable set up tomorrow. I hope it all gets done to your wishes. Have Con growl at him if he calls you "darlin'" Once I ordered a clothes washer from Sears. Two men delivered it and one growled at me, "There now I hope you're happy." Bizzare.

And thank you everyone for you good wishes for my new studio.

Suki, this is so funny. Isn't it something, how we are always doing the push and shove with our mothers all through our lives. This situation sounds so like my mom and me.

I'm so happy that you will have a new GOOD studio. I felt so bad that you had to work in that cold, damp, dark shed. I know I wish mine was out of the basement and into the light, but it is roomy and cool in summer and warm in winter. Hurrah for you! P.S. I hope she doesn't change her mind back.

my dearest Suki - what wonderfully delightful news for you - for your art - for your creativity! wow. it just shows how the universe does answer our prayers ... in her own time of course, and in her own way -- but sometimes there is nothing wrong with trusting. with patience. I will think on that this year, as I make time for my own creativity and writing ...

Oh Suki I am so happy for you!
Knowing that you will have a comfortable studio and that you can create in a warm and dry environment this winter is a good feeling!
It will be fun moving all your things there, making it your spot!
Enjoy!

thanks Katie Jane. There are some things I like about my old studio however esp as I work with a lot paper, it just wasn't good for that. Paper soaks in the moisture. Also, things I had glued were coming unglued. So, I am happy about the new situation.

Thanks Honor. I hope your new focus on your creativity is fun for you and works out well. What a great thing to do for yourself. Be well, Suki

Thanks Marianne. Mom keeps saying "When are you going to move the furniture around," so guess i can start tomorrow. I love to move furniture so that'll be fun. Hugs to you, Suki
