Wax Collage Post Two

See you Saturday. The first one I showed you the other day. I haven't changed it at all although I determined I didn't like the green paper behind the photo. It seems too heavy. Not sure if I will remove it or not.

Paris I need a better title for this. Rose Window? suggestions welcome.

By the Sea. This one I have been struggling with. I used a purple crayon to color the border. Didn't like it and couldn't get the wax off. So used a blue/green crayon to cover it over. Now it looks dayglo. I ripped off a shell to the right of the photo leaving blank canvas showing, but will rewax it soon. Crayons are not really the best wax for colors. Or maybe this one is meant to be sort of kitsch. I have to admit that this blue is not one of my habitual colors. So maybe that is good.

Why? I used some of the tissue paper I had painted a few weeks ago as the background.
I also used less collage elements. Frankly, I like the simpler less packed collages the best.
Here is one of my habitual colors, purple.

Another collage done with pre-painted tissue paper as background. No name yet for this one but I think it is my favorite.

Wild West.

The last two canvases (not shown) I have been struggling with just in the layout stage. When I used the rose petals in "Paris" I discovered they became flattened and you can't even tell they are rose petals (to the left of the canvas) so I ditched the rose petal idea and left myself having to layout the last two (not shown) differently. I think I'm about ready to wax them up though, tomorrow or the next day.

Most of these are not finished. Work in Progress.

Suki, I like them all! The blue one I like because of it's dynamic in the blue and the wax strokes!
And my favourite one is why, perhaps even without the petals, (but that is only my vision...) I just love the colours you succeeded to create here and the structure of the surface and the picture!
love
Andrea

thanks Andrea. I do think I learned some things doing the blue one. If you enlarge it you can see the wax on the bottom looks to me like sand grains. Plus swirling the colors like that on the edges was fun.

These are looking great. I have only a second to be on line right now but had to check. I will come back and really look at them but I love what I am seeing.
It is a crazy morning here. and maybe week.

Suki, I have to say I really love these a lot...all of them. As Andrea says there is a lot of texture and depth to these. I like the blue, too. I don't know if this would matter to you or not (and I might be stepping out of bounds, too), but would beeswax crayons be a helpful choice for you adding color? Or would you be able to use dry pigment? Of course, I have no clue, but just wondering since it seemed to be an issue for you.

And, as you probably know, I am such a purple girl, too!

Thanks Suki...I am eager to see the others you have done, too!

Cris thanks for stopping by. Crazy week! Sounds exciting. Have fun.

Kim I am always open to suggestions. I didn't know there were beeswax crayons. I will look for them. I did once add dry pigment, gold I think, to some wax. The trouble with that is I only have one melting pot. The pigment colors all the wax in the pot. Solution to that would be to have something like a pancake griddle, which i'm looking for, then I could have various metal cups in which I melt different colors of dry pigment. OR I could invest in the encaustic color sticks. thanks for your ideas and feedback. I took a couple to show my ex today and he didn't care for "Paris." Too top heavy, but he liked the other two I showed him. Be well, Suki

Also, PS I love feedback as I am not really good at determining how things are working and I know others often see them very differently than myself.

Ah Britt-arnhild, Yes, you are the blue woman. I will be leaving the blue there, just filling in the hole I made and a few other things. Thanks.

Anne, well so funny. Two people who love the blue. That's what I mean. I just can't judge things myself, I never know how other's will see them. Thanks so much for the encouraging words.

thanks for posting these Suki. I have never seen collages like this before ... so I am fascinated! Your favorite is also my favorite - a purely gut response ... when I saw it, I said, "ohhhhhh!"... from a non-artist :)

Suki, my favorite is "See You Saturday". Love the colors and especially that intriguing note. And I really like the sea picture. Looks like seafoam.

Glad you liked the bridge art show.

I like them too. The last one with the moose and the buffalo stamp seem to fit in my travels...
I like the whole feel to it's colors and photo 1911 baby...

The others are fun, all the sea shells...sandy look to it...

Oh Honor, thanks for your comments. I live to hear from everyone, artist or "non-artist," even though I would consider you an artist. Just think of those gorgeous photos of the mountains you took.

Thanks Cris. I just took off the lump of rose petals to the left of the canvas today, but the larger rose is still there. La Vie en rose is a good title. Maybe I'll use that.

Thanks Katie Jane. I actually took off the branch from "See You Saturday" and added ferns hoping the green of the ferns would balance the green behind the photo.

Yes, sea foam. Funny how it turned out to look like that.

Lynn, "hey baby let's do Paris," I thought you were proposing a trip to Paris. Well, that's a fun title. Yes, Wild West the little guy is just tooooo cute. I didnt realize you could still see the date on it. Great. Glad to hear from you whilst on your adventure.
