Saturday Yard Sale Trip

Beeswax hearts.

Picture frames. He had a lot. These were free and 50 cents each. Now I wish I'd gotten some of the larger ones.

A little hanging stand. I was going to put a couple of my childhood dolls on it, but it's too small.

These papyrus sheets were in picture frames. I removed them. I love them. They are made for tourists of course but I've never touched papyrus before.

The letters are from the 40's. Love letters from a her to a him living at the address where I bought these. I wish I'd taken all the letters. The rose thing is a needle card. The Poesie book is my best find. Every page inside has words: good wishes and notations written in ink. Sort of like an autograph book.

Four old maps.

ummm... could you put up a line or two from the book of Posie???

I love old books... and books of lovers... and I also love those frames... something inviting about a photograph of frames... I was thinking earlier about doing some photography of a painting I'm doing of a sculpture... have a few layers working... know what I mean...???

OK Hopper, I'll look through the Posie book and see what I can find. The letters are what contained the romance in the making. You know, once I made that frame photo I really liked it myself. It looked like some kind of wild scultpture. The cat link I got from Marianne in the Netherlands. I love it too. It makes me laugh. thanks for stopping by.

Cool stuff you got at the garage sales. love the posey book and the frame picture too. You have the makings of some more wax collages you are doing with those.

forgot to mention the Bees Wax hearts. what will you do with them? are they very big? what was the original purpose of them. They are kind of cool.

Suki!

These are fantastic finds. I adore the idea of the old love letters! They must be amazing to read...and the book...wow, another good read.

The frames will be great for some of your collages and paintings...wow! Well, everything is just too much. I never find things like this around here...I need to visit your area!

I am also eager to see how you use these items. How much fun was all of this? Your studio must look awesome!

Thanks!

Annie, I have only skimmed the letters. They seem so personal but this guy was selling them so....

Hi andrea, thanks for stopping by. Frames are fun to collect but they take up a lot of room. Still, I am a sucker for frames.

Cris the beeswax hearts have a string in them to hand them. I consider them fairly large, maybe 5 to six inches wide. She had some kind of mold and poured the wax in to give it patterns.

Kim and Forever Young. This yard sale was unusual for this area. Usually you find stuff you wouldn't even want to touch. this guy had true antiques and was selling them for very little to clear out the apartment where they were stored. Now, On Cape Cod they had Estate Sales where you could often find incredible things. They occurred throughout the year, when someone died and the family didnt want most of their stuff. But really even the thrift stores could have wonderful old things on Cape cod.

Finding these great things at a yardsale is just wonderful, love those beeswax hearts. and the letters? I usually find stuff like that at unusual antique stores. To me, a day driving around looking for yard sales, and little towns is a day in heaven!

Blogger doesn't like me today...I'm entering the random letters for the third time right now....grrrrr

I love the Poesie book and the needle holder.
The thought of someone else holding and reading your love letters feels a little awkward to me... Not so long ago I found a letter I wrote after my first boyfriend broke my heart (25 years ago) I wrote it to order my thought that time.
I trew the letter away after 25 years without even opening it......
When we sorted out the pictures at my dads home we found old letters from my Swedish grandmother and other relatives, treasures to keep.

Marianne, I am an old letters lover/nut. Even my own. Yes, they are treasures esp now with less and less people writing handwritten notes. Although that said, I had to throw out a lot of letters when I moved as I was moving to no where. I still have a few boxes of special letters though.
