Garden slogs along

This is as much as I have cleared so far. I can hoe about one square foot and then my heart is beating fast and I have to rest. Not sure if I'll get it all hoed this spring. Although it is only 17 by 10 approximately.

I have strewn some dried grass around and put down black plastic over the grass that is still growing on part of the garden. The grass has deep roots and is hard to get out. I guess a normal person would rototill it.

The plastic will just remain until the grass underneath dies and thus will be easier to hoe. After a week of sunny summer weather, this week has been cold and wet.

Looks like you got a lot done tho. Gardening isnt for the weak of heart thats for sure, but it is satisfying. :) We just got our tomaotes and string bean seeds and are going to get our garden ready for planting. It isnt a long season for planting so we get going as soon as we can. Hope you get something in this season. Its so much fun to eat the results. or even SEE them.

Currently FY I live with my 90 year old mom. My younger brother is just across the road but he doesn't have the ?? to help me as he is caring for his wife.

My son lives half an hour away but he doesn't drive so for him to help I'd have two hours of driving in store.

There really is no one to help as I am new here and don't know a lot of people. Oh well. I'll just do as much as I can.

Cris, I might go off to the garden shop tomorrow. But most of my plans are for flowers, maybe a few tomato plants. Have fun planting.

Looking Good, looking good. The plastic idea should work pretty fast. I don't blame you for going slow. Weeding and hoeing are NOT my favorite gardening tasks. Have you decided what you'll be planting, vegetables or flowers or herbs?

You were very diligent! - You must be tired and sleep well after all that;-))
P.S. Thank you so much for your response. I'm really happy that you perceived the "nostalgia" I wanted to put in the painting...
Kind regards from
Claudia

Suki,

You are doing a great job! Wow! I can imagine how challenging it is to clear out that space! You made me laugh when you said a normal person would roto till it! Maybe so, but there is something therapeutic about doing it this way, sometime. I am not much of a gardener, but I sure do appreciate anyone who is.

I can't wait to see the magic you work with this space.

Thanks

Katie Jane, possibly all of the above. depending on how much space I get cleared.

Claudia thanks for stopping by. Diligence is one of my characteristics for sure.

Kim, yes it is therapeutic to hoe. And now my brother has suggested I use a pitch fork so things might go faster with that. If i can find one around here.

My garden looks the same, and is nasty after this cold and rainy weekend. I do have a little electric rototiller but it's a bit more work to use than needed.
Thanks for your advice on home health care, I need all the advice I can get!

I have gardened by laying this plastic or the cloth kind is my preferance; then adding topsoil and mixed with Miracle Gro gardening soil and planting right in that. But cover that grass peeking out first!
Good luck and save your breath!
